PeeWees Take Third at State

The PeeWee Ice Dawgs saw their season come to end at the State Tournament in Missoula this past weekend with a third place finish. Glasgow went 1-2-1 on the weekend.

Glasgow ended their game against Flathead in the opening round on Friday knotted at 5 on the scoreboard. They then fell to the Billings-1 by a score of 2-0 Saturday before losing 3-0 to Billings-2 later that day. Sunday they downed the Havre Ice Hawks 8-2.

Flathead took a 2-0 lead in the first period of Glasgow’s first game. But Ian Anderson cut Flathead’s lead in half before the buzzer sounded.

Anderson tied the game less than five minutes into the second period before Flathead reclaimed the lead. Thirty seconds later Abigail Henry tied the game again. Flathead went up once more but this time Jack Miller was there on the power play with an answering goal. Breckin Partridge earned the assist.

Anderson gave Glasgow their only lead of the game in the third but this time it was Flathead’s turn to tie the game. The 5-5 score stood as the clock ran out.

Each team turned in a nearly-perfect game with only one penalty served by each. Bryant Green served a cross-checking call in the first period for the Dawgs.

Glasgow put 17 shots on goal while Ira Moore turned away 44 pucks for an 89.8 save percentage.

The Dawgs faced Billings on Saturday in a goalie showdown. The scoreboard showed goose eggs until midway through the final period when Billings found the back of the net twice for their win over Glasgow.

Moore turned away 22 of 24 shots between Glasgow’s pipes for a 91.7 save percentage in the losing effort. The Billings netminder also turned away 22 shots in the shutout.

Glasgow served time for six penalties while Billings had only two infractions.

Anderson served a tripping call in the first and Hudson Honey sat for the same in the second. Jack Miller served time for both hooking and high-sticking in the third while Carter Holte sat for roughing in the final period.

The Dawgs took on Billings-2 in their third game of the tournament.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first period. Billings put two pucks past Moore in the second and once more in the third for their win.

Moore earned an 86.4 save percentage, turning away 19 other shots in the game. Glasgow put 17 pucks on the Billings’ goaltender.

Billings was called for two penalties while Glasgow drew five whistles from the officials.

Honey served time for both hooking and body checking in the second. A. Henry, cross-checking, and Orion Henry, tripping, were also sent to the box before intermission. O. Henry served a third-period cross-checking call as well.

Glasgow hit the ice with renewed purpose on Sunday when they took on the Havre Ice Hawks.

Havre lit up the scoreboard first and despite being on the wrong side of a man advantage Glasgow answered and took the lead 13 seconds later. Both goals came with O. Henry in the box for roughing. Anderson netted the first and Honey scored the second. Miler doubled Glasgow’s lead with help from O. Henry a couple minutes later.

The Dawgs put up three more goals in the second period before the Hawks answered. Anderson, A. Henry and Holte, assist A. Henry, increased Glasgow’s lead to 6-1 before the Hawks made it 6-2.

Anderson added one more goal before intermission to give the Dawgs a 7-2 lead heading into the final period. Miller, with help from Anderson, scored the final goal of the game in the final period.

O. Henry, roughing, and Tay Morehouse, tripping, were sent to the penalty box in the first period. Partridge served a tripping call in the second and Holte served an interference call in the third.

Glasgow put 37 shots on net while Moore saw only 13 pucks in the crease for Glasgow. The Dawgs’ netminder earned an 84.6 save percentage in the consolation win.

“Kids played very good all weekend – three very close games,” said head coach Landon Holte. He added, “Very proud of all the players on this team this year!”
