19U Ice Dawgs Finish Fourth at State

Glasgow’s 19U Ice Dawgs finished their season in Havre with a fourth-place finish at the state tournament. The Dawgs fell to the Flathead Fusion 5-2 in their first game on Friday. They rebounded to defeat Salmon 4-3 on Saturday. Glasgow and Salmon met again Sunday morning but this time Salmon came out on top of 5-2 score.

The Dawgs struck first in their game against Flathead, going up 2-0 early in the game but Flathead tied the game in the first before shutting Glasgow out the remainder of the game.

Ava Lloyd was the first goal scorer for Glasgow, striking just 37 seconds into play with an assist from Tatum Provencher. Kylie Lagerquist netted the second Dawgs’ goal on a power play with help from Provencher.

Flathead added two goals in the second and one in the third for their 5-2 win.

Delaney Rixford saw 49 shots in the crease for the Dawgs while her teammates threw 26 pucks at the Flathead netminder.

Flathead was called for four penalties while Glasgow was sent to the box three times.

Lloyd served a first-period penalty for tripping. She sat in the second for the same call. Victoria Pehlke was sent to the sin bin for cross checking, also in the second period.

Saturday, Glasgow took on Salmon and defeated them by a single goal.

Lloyd again put the Dawgs on the big board first, scoring just 3:15 in with help from Kimber Dulaney. Salmon answered just over a minute later but Lagerquist took back the lead for Glasgow with seven seconds left in the period. Lloyd assisted.

Salmon netted the only goal of the second period to knot the game at 2 a piece heading into the final period. They struck first again in the third, taking a one-goal lead with 13:19 left to play.

But Glasgow was not done.

Lagerquist tied the game with help from Pehlke with 5:49 remaining. Dulaney scored the game-winning goal when the clock read 0:55.

Rixford turned away 29 of 32 shots for a 90.6 save percentage in the win. Glasgow outshot Salmon by one.

Both teams were called for five penalties.

Four of Glasgow’s five infractions came in the second. Lloyd, holding; Shanice Lagerquist, hooking and slashing, and Emma Whitmer, body checking were sent to the penalty box. Provencher served a hooking call in the third.

The two teams met again Sunday morning where Glasgow found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-2 final score.

Glasgow lit up the scoreboard first when K. Lagerquist scored a power play goal with 53 seconds remaining in the period. Pehlke and Dulaney assisted. Salmon answered with 11 seconds left to tie the game after one.

Salmon put up two goals in the second for a 3-1 lead at intermission.

They added two more in the third before Glasgow found the back of the net again. Provencher netted a power play goal for the Dawgs with an assist from Dulaney.

Glasgow served time for six penalties while Salmon was sent to the penalty box seven times. Whitmer, Provencher and Molly Whitmer were called for one infraction each. S. Lagerquist was called for three penalties. Individual penalty details were unavailable.

The Dawgs’ offense put 31 shots on goal while Rixford faced 20 shots between the pipes.

K. Lagerquist was named 2nd Team All State by the Montana Amateur Hockey Association for her performance at the tournament.
