Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Matt Rosendale, Montana's lone representative, was in Glasgow on Monday to meet with Glasgow senior Dalton Sand regarding the Scottie's future endeavors.
Sand was one of four Montana seniors who passed the vetting process and earned a nomination to one of the nation's premier military academies from the Representative. The two discussed the soon-to-be graduate's ambitions regarding the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
As a native of Maryland, Rep. Rosendale expressed his desire and willingness to provide support to Sand on the East Coast.
"I basically want to play a support role," Rosendale told the Courier of his continued plans to support Sand. In meeting with Sand and his parents, Josh and Ronica, Montana's congressional delegate stressed the importance of meeting in person while offering up both personal and professional support.
Beyond his familial connections in Maryland near the Academy, Rosendale said, "Additionally, I'm going to be there in Washington so if he has any questions or concerns about anything that's taking place as he goes through the Academy I want him to be able to reach out and feel comfortable asking for my support, guidance, whatever..."
Sand received a principal nomination to the Naval Academy and is considering the military as a career following a year at the Navy's prep school and four years at the Academy. "I'd like to get into aviation, see where I can go with that," he said, "or even special forces ... see if I can get a shot at being a Navy SEAL."
He continued, "So we'll see where life takes me." Sand, who first began looking at the military as an option within the last two years, has a number of paths available to him post-graduation. The senior is giving all due consideration to the options available to him.
Whatever path he chooses, the young man moves forward with a considerable base of support, from his family in the Middle of Nowhere to the representative in the heart of the nation.
