HS Ice Dawgs Split Games in Miles City

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs high school team dropped their first game in Miles City 7-5 before claiming a 3-1 victory over the Generals in their second match-up Saturday.

In a rematch weekend, the Generals took a 2-0 lead over the Dawgs in game one’s first period. Glasgow struck first in the second period when Colter Barnett netted an even-strength goal.

Miles City lit up the scoreboard three more times before Glasgow answered. Peyton Hubbard, assist Trevor Dulaney, netted a short-handed goal to make the score 5-2. Barnett scored a shortie to bring the Dawgs within two but Miles City found their way past Aidin Wilkowski twice more before intermission to carry a 7-3 lead into the final period.

A change in net shifted the momentum in Glasgow’s favor in the third as they added two more goals but still fell short of overtime or a win. Tatum Hansen scored a short-handed goal with an assist from Dillon Hughes and Barnett netted an even-strength goal with help from Hubbard.

Kolten Hansen faced six shots in the final period while Wilkowski had faced 24 in his time between the pipes. Glasgow’s offense put 45 shots on the Generals’ netminder.

Glasgow had five penalties. T. Hansen was sent to the box for tripping in the first. Michael Hoyer, interference, and Dulaney, unsportsmanlike conduct, took seats in the second period. Zevin Kimmerfeldt served time for both tripping and roughing in the third.

The Dawgs and the Generals stood tied at nothing after the first period of their second game, with K. Hansen in net for the Dawgs. Hoyer scored the only goal of the second period, with an assist from Barnett.

Miles City tied the game just over two minutes into the third period, but Glasgow added two more goals for their win. Mason Hunter and Hoyer each added an even-strength goal for the Dawgs.

K. Hansen faced 25 shots in net while Glasgow put 39 pucks on the Miles City netminder.

Glasgow was called for three penalties in the game, giving up one power play goal. T. Hansen went to the sin bin in the first for tripping. Connor Koski served time in the third for high sticking and Hubbard served a third-period interference call.

The Ice Dawgs host the Helena Big Horns this weekend for a pair of games. Pucks drop at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.
