NC Girls Block Scotties

Pick up Two Conference Wins

The North Country girls continued to roll through their season with three big wins this past week. The Mavericks downed the Coyotes 56-19 in Dodson on Thursday and defeated the Nashua Porcupines 50-8 in Whitewater on Friday in two conference games. Saturday in Saco they hosted the Glasgow Scotties who also fell to the Mavericks, 51-22.

Jaycee Erickson led the squad in their win over Dodson, putting up 17 points with four assists and three steals. Teagan Erickson added 8 points, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Paige Wasson had 5 points, three assists and eight steals. Kendall Scheffelmear added 6 points and seven rebounds. Mattea McColly had 4 points and seven boards.

In Whitewater, the Mavericks shut down the Porcupines in the first half while putting up 19 points in the first and 11 in the second for a 30-0 lead at the half. They outscored the visitors 17-5 in the third while both teams put up 3 points in the final eight minutes.

T. Erickson scored 17 points and had six rebounds and two assists. J. Erickson added 8 points, three assists and five steals. Wasson scored 7 points with three assists and five steals. Kora LaBrie had 6 points and two assists. McColly scored 4 points and Zandora Longtree hit a field goal.

The Mavericks ran over the Scotties in Saco after leading by a point in the first, 6-5. North Country outscored Glasgow 18-2 in the second and led 34-15 after three quarters. They outscored the Scotties again in the fourth by a 17-6 margin.

North Country had three players hit double-digit scoring. J. Erickson put up 16 , T. Erickson 14 and Wasson 11. J. Erickson also had three rebounds, four assists and three steals. T. Erickson added 10 rebounds, two assists and four blocks. Wasson had four assists and two steals. Longtree added 5 points, with a shot from downtown and McColly connected for 3 points.

"The girls were very focused for the Glasgow game and came out focused and fired up. I told them that I was very proud of their effort, enthusiasm and teamwork," said head coach Amber Erickson. "We are getting better because they are competing hard against each other every day in practice and making an extra effort to do all the little things right every game. Our bench energy is the best I have ever coached the girls have embraced their roles and are having a great season."

North Country travels to Scobey Friday, Feb. 4 for a varsity girls game at 6 p.m. and a boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
