Nashua Boys Drop Two Conference Games

Nashua’s boys basketball team showed some offensive prowess this past weekend but still found themselves behind two conference rivals when the final buzzers sounded.

The Porcupines fell to the Mavericks 50-29 in Whitewater on Friday where a strong fourth quarter was not enough to cut the deficit. Nashua put up 56 points Saturday night in Dodson, but the Coyotes held the edge with 70 points at the end of four quarters.

Nashua trailed North Country 13-6 at the end of one and 30-6 at the half. A slow start after halftime saw the Porcupines put up only 2 points in the third while the Mavericks add 20 to the scoreboard.

Nashua rallied in the third with 16 points and shut out North Country, but it was not enough to overcome the scoring gap.

Damon Adkins and Ethan Noser each hit two three-pointers and led the Porcupines with with 8 points a piece. Xander Pugh added 7, Kevan Viste 4 and Caden Laumeyer 2.

Nashua had 13 fouls, six in the second half. Walker Laumeyer fouled out while C. Laumeyer and Viste were called for three a piece. Noser had two fouls and Reese Rorvik and Xander Pugh had one each.

Nashua started a stronger game in Dodson on Saturday with 17 points in the first quarter, giving them a 2-point edge. The Coyotes outscored the Porcupines 22-5 in the second though to take a 37-25 lead into halftime.

Dodson put up 15 in the third while holding Nashua to 11 in the third. The Porcupines outscored their hosts 20-18 in the final eight minutes, but could not cut into Dodson’s lead enough to earn a win.

Adkins hit four from outside and led the Porcupines with 16 points. Viste added 11 and C. Laumeyer hit for 10 points. Pugh added 7 with a three-pointer. W. Laumeyer added 4 points and Bubba Pugh hit a shot from downtown for Nashua.

Nashua had 17 fouls, eight in the second half. Noser fouled out while C. Laumeyer and Viste were called for four each. Adkins and W. Laumeyer had two infractions each while X. Pugh kept his fouls to one.

Nashua will be in Frazer Friday, Feb. 4. The girls varsity will play at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 5, the team travels to Brockton with games beginning at 4 p.m.
