Lustre Girls Drop Two

The Lustre Christian girls basketball team lost two games and a key starter this past week. Last Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Lions were in Scobey where they lost starter Alexa Reddig to a broken collarbone in the first quarter and lost the game to the Spartans 56-16. Friday night they lost 60-24 to the Bulldogs in Bainville.

Lustre Christian held close with Scobey in the first, trailing 14-10 after eight minutes, but fell behind 28-12 by halftime. The Spartans outscored the Lions 16-4 in the third before going on to their 56-16 victory.

Grace Brown put up 6 points for the Lions followed by Abby Olfert and Aubri Holzrichter with 4 each. Reddig hit a field goal before leaving the game.

Brown incurred all four of the Lions’ fouls, getting called for two in each of the halves.

Opheim’s Carrie Taylor, playing for the Unified Scobey-Opheim team, scored 10 points.

The young Lions found themselves outmatched in Bainville Saturday night, going down 22-0 in the first quarter. The home team led 42-7 at the half.

Lustre Christian put up 11 points in the third but were still outscored as Bainville connected for 16. The Lions did outscore the Bulldogs in the fourth, 6-2, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 60-24 score at the final buzzer.

Holzrichter hit four shots from downtown and led the Lions with 14 points. Brown added 10 points, going 4-for-5 at the free throw line.

Brown had three of the team’s seven fouls, all of which came in the first half. Olfert had two and Holzrichter and Hannah Brown had one each.

The Lions will be in Frazer on Saturday, Feb. 5. The girls varsity will play at 6 p.m., followed by the boys varsity at 7:30 p.m.
