No Bulls: A 'Dawg Beat Dog' Weekend

Ice Dawgs Defeat Billings Bulls, Bozeman Ice Dogs

The High School Glasgow Ice Dawgs skated through their home weekend, racking up four victories.

Glasgow defeated the Billings Bulls 7-0 Friday night and 8-1 Saturday morning. They then waged two come-from-behind wins over the Bozeman Ice Dogs. For Senior Night on Saturday, the Dawgs scored five goals in the final period for a 6-3 victory. Sunday morning they beat the Dogs 3-2.

Ice Dawgs' assistant captain Gage Siefert kicked off Glasgow's scoring in game one, netting the only first period goal with an assist from fellow assistant captain Michael Hoyer.

Glasgow added four goals in the second period. Tatum Hansen netted a power play goal, followed four seconds later by an even strength goal from Peyton Hubbard. Siefert netted his second of the game and captain Colter Barnett found the back of the net with the Dawgs short handed.

In the third period, Mason Hunter scored with assists from Siefert and Hoyer before Hoyer added a goal of his own, with help from Barnett.

Glasgow had 24 penalty minutes on eight calls. Hunter, misconduct, and Sam Knierim, roughing, took seats in the first. Hoyer, elbowing; Connor Koski, interference, and Trevor Dulaney, hooking, were sent to the box in the second. Barnett, interference; Josh Llewellyn, unsportsmanlike conduct, and Hunter, interference, were cited in the third period.

Glasgow put up 42 shots on net in the game while the Dawgs' goalie Aidin Wilkowski turned away all 30 of Billings' attempts on his net for the shutout win.

The teams hit the ice again Saturday morning and again Glasgow started the scoring. Hansen found the back of the net less than a minute in with help from Hoyer. Billings answered 11 seconds later with their lone goal of the game. The Dawgs' responded with three more goals before the horn sounded.

Aiden Price scored with an assist from Dillon Hughes and Siefert found the back of the net with help from Barnett and Hoyer. Hansen netted the final goal of the first period.

In the second period Hoyer netted two short-handed goals, with an assist from Barnett on the first. Barnett put a puck past the Billings netminder with help from Dulaney with a minute to play before intermission.

Glasgow's captain took the Dawgs to 8 with help from Hansen and Dulaney in the third period.

Glasgow had 8 penalties for 16 minutes. Hansen, elbowing, and Barnett, unsportsmanlike conduct, were sent to the penalty box in the first period.

Tristan Powell, hooking; Hubbard, roughing, and Hansen, unsportsmanlike conduct, took involuntary seats in the second. Koski, cross-checking; Powell, minor, and Hoyer, tripping, were called for penalties in the final period.

The Ice Dawgs fired 36 pucks at the Billings goalie while Wilkowski earned his second win of the weekend, turning away 15 shots for a 93.8 save percentage.

Saturday evening Glasgow took on Bozeman for Senior Night. Glasgow's first line found the back of the net first with 2:10 left in the first. Hoyer, with help from Barnett, scored a power play goal. Bozeman answered to end the period knotted at 1 goal each.

The Dogs added a goal in the second to carry a 2-1 lead into intermission.

Then the Dawgs added bite to their bark. A shortie by Hoyer, assist Barnett, kicked off the third period scoring frenzy. Lex Fairclough, with help from Siefert and Koski, scored the go-ahead goal for the Dawgs.

Bozeman scored their final goal shortly after but Glasgow was like, well, a dawg with a bone. Barnett put another puck in the net with help from Hansen to regain the lead. He assisted on the next goal, scored by Hoyer for a hat trick.

Down, 5-3, the Ice Dogs pulled their goalie for the man advantage but it was not to their benefit. Barnett scored the short-handed empty netter to secure a Dawgs' victory.

Glasgow had 14 penalty minutes on seven infractions in the game. Dulaney was sent to the box for tripping in the first.

Fairclough, tripping, and Siefert, unsportsmanlike, sat in the second period. Koski, interference; Hughes, roughing; Powell, tripping, and Hoyer, hooking, were cited in the third.

Glasgow put 40 pucks on net while Wilkowski, in his third win, turned away 38 shots for a 92.7 save percentage.

Sunday morning, the Dawgs again came from behind to win, overcoming a first period 2-1 deficit. The Ice Dogs put two goals on the scoreboard to open the game before Hansen answered with less than three minutes remaining in the first.

Both goalies registered shut-outs in the second period, sending the game to intermission with a 2-1 Bozeman lead.

The third period belonged to Hansen, who earned the natural hat trick. His first goal came less than two minutes into the third, with an assist from netminder Wilkowski. His third goal came with 11:26 left in the game and stood as the game's final goal.

Glasgow was called for eight penalties, resulting in 16 sin bin minutes. Hubbard served a too many men on the ice penalty for the team in the first period. Siefert, roughing, and Dulaney, slashing, also sat.

Sam Knierim, interference, served the only penalty for the Dawgs in the second period. Hansen served three roughing penalties in the third and Siefert was called for elbowing.

The Ice Dawgs outshot the Ice Dogs by a 37-19 margin. Wilkowski had an 89.5 save percentage in his fourth win of the weekend.

The Ice Dawgs will host Crosby this weekend with games at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, and 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30.
