Lustre Christian Boys Add Two Conference Wins

No team has managed yet this season to slow down the Lustre Christian boys basketball team. The North Country Mavericks, 71-29, and the Dodson Coyotes, 82-44, both fell to the Lions this past weekend as the undefeated team picked up two more conference wins.

Lustre Christian set the tone for their weekend in the first quarter against North Country, going up 18-6. They increased their lead to 43-17 at the break.

Heading into the final eight minutes, the Lions led 64-23. They outscored the Mavericks 7-6 in the final quarter with their second string on the court.

Kolden Hoversland scored 27 points, connecting on two three-pointers and going 5-for-7 at the line and Kaleb Hoversland added 11 points with two treys. Cayden Klatt scored 9 points, Clay Reddig 7, Jasiah Hambira 6, Alex Chen 5, Braden Ewing 4 and Gabe Alves 2 points. Klatt led the Lions in assists with five while Kolden Hoversland added three and Ewing and Hambira contributed two each.

Kolden Hoversland, seven, and Ewing, five, led in rebounds. B. Chen pulled down four boards and Clatt, Reddig and Hambira grabbed three a piece. Klatt, A. Chen and Hambira each had two steals for Lustre Christian.

The Lions had 19 fouls in the game, seven in the second half. Ewing and Hambira had four each. A. Chen was called for three while B. Chan, Kaleb Hovresland and Reddig had two each. Klatt and Alves were called for one each.

Saturday night the Lions were in Dodson where they established a double-digit lead in the first quarter, 21-10. They increased their lead to 16 points at the half, 40-24.

After the break Lustre Christian went up 59-32 heading into the final eight minutes. The Lions outscored their hosts 23-12 in the final quarter.

The Lions shot 52.5 percent from the field. Hambira led Lustre Christian in scoring with 26 points. Kaleb Hoversland and Kolden Hoversland each added 14 points. Klatt scored 9, Ewing 7, A. Chen 6, Reddig 4 and B. Chen 2 points.

Ewing and Kolden Hoversland each grabbed 12 of the team’s 46 rebounds. Kaleb Hoversland pulled down six and Hambira and Reddig snagged five each.

Kolden Hoversland led the team in assists with six while Kaleb Hoversland and Clatt added three a piece. The two Hoverslands each registered three steals in the game while Ewing had two and Reddig one.

The Lions were called for 19 fouls, 10 in the second half. Ewing was called for four, while Kaleb Hoversland had three. B. Chen, A. Chen, Kolden Hoversland, and Hambira were called for two a piece. Klatt and Reddig held their infractions to one each.

Thursday, Jan. 20, the Lions travel to Culbertson. The girls JV plays at 3 p.m. and the boys JV plays at 4:30 p.m. The girls varsity game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m. Lustre Christian hosts the Nashua Porcupines Friday, Jan. 21, with games at 3, 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.
