Nashua Boys Still Looking for First Win

The Nashua boys basketball team has yet to find themselves on the winning side of a score this season despite some strong scoring streaks. Nashua hosted Frazer and Brockton this past weekend with both visiting teams also looking for their first wins of the season and finding them at the expense of the Porcupines.

Frazer won their Friday night matchup 75-63 and Brockton took a 52-43 victory home with them.

Nashua's first quarter on Friday against the Bearcubs saw a tight-back and forth game with the score knotted at 14 each at the first buzzer. Balanced scoring from the Porcupines propelled them to a 38-28 lead at the half.

Back on the hardwood, the Bearcubs exploded in the third with 22 points while holding the home team to 7. Frazer added 25 in the fourth while Nashua put up 18 points.

Both teams racked up fouls in the game. Frazer had 21 and Nashua was called for 20, nine in the second half. Ethan Noser fouled out. Kevan Viste and Caden Laumeyer were called for four fouls each. Xander Pugh, Grady Nielsen and John Grimes had two a piece and Walker Laumeyer was called for one.

Nashua had 17 turnovers in the game compared to Frazer's 9.

Pugh put up 20 points for Nashua, including 6-for-9 on free throws. Grady Nielsen added 16 points, with a trey and Kevan Viste added 11, also with a three-pointer. C. Laumeyer scored 7, Grimes 5, W. Laumeyer 3 and Noser 1.

Saturday night, Nashua outscored Brockton 13-5 in the first and 16-8 in the second to carry a 29-13 lead into halftime.

The Warriors came out battling in the second half, outscoring the Porcupines 19-5 in the third and 20-9 in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Nashua had 24 turnovers compared to Brockton's 19. Both teams were called for 16 fouls. Ten of Nashua's came in the second half.

Viste and Noser fouled out of the game. Pugh and C. Laumeyer were called for two each and Charlie Kaasa and Grimes had one a piece.

Pugh led the Porcupines in scoring with 13. Nielsen and C. Laumeyer had 8 each. W. Laumeyer added 6, Viste 5 and Noser 3.

Nashua travels to Scobey Friday, Jan. 14, to take on the Spartans. Girls JV plays at 3 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m. Next Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Porcupines host the Circle Wildcats. Girls JV plays at 3 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m.
