Lustre Christian Girls Defeat Frazer

In their only game of the week after the holiday break, the Lustre Christian Lions girls basketball team defeated the visiting Frazer Bearcubs Jan. 8.

The Lions came out of the gate slowly, going down 4-0 to the visiting Bearcubs after the first eight minutes of play. They found their game legs in the second quarter and never looked back.

Lustre Christian put up 17 points before halftime while holding the Bearcubs to a single field goal it the second quarter.

In the third quarter they continued to dominate, outscoring their guests 20-8 to head into the fourth with a 37-14 lead. The Lions allowed 8 more points from the Bearcubs in the final eight minutes while putting up 14 points to secure the win.

Frazer was called for 18 fouls while Lustre Christian held theirs to eight, five in the second half. Grace Brown and Hannah Brown had two each while Alexa Reddig, Aubri Holzrichter and Meredith Valentine had one each.

Reddig led the Lions in points with 18, including the team’s only three-pointer. Holzrichter added 16 points and G. Brown had 14, including 2-for-2 at the free throw line. H. Brown contributed 3 points in the win.

Lustre Christian hosts North Country Friday, Jan. 14. The boys JV game starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 6 p.m. and boys varsity at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, the Lions travel to Dodson. Boys JV starts at 3 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m.
