Happy New Year to All!

Adventures in St. Marie

We got to talking the other day about the city of Glasgow, Montana being in the “Middle of Nowhere” but had a question about that… just how did they come up with this?

Found out that a group at Oxford’s Big Data Institute that studies the intersection of disease, geography and demographics, spent years building a globe-spanning map outlining just how long it takes to cross any spot on the planet.

So the Washington Post stated that they spent hours of computer time processing every pixel and every populated place in the contiguous United States and came up with one that would best represent “The Middle of Nowhere!”

So what it boils down to is: “Of all towns with more than 1,000 residents, Glasgow, home to 3,363 people of northeastern Montana, is farthest — about 4.5 hours in any direction — from any metropolitan area of more than 75,000 people, according to the Washington Post.

So now we all know! If I may opine, here?

Way too much time on their hands.

I think that it is pretty clear that being in the “Middle of Nowhere” really comes across in the dead of winter and frigid temps that come with it!

So, a reminder to some….

Please bring in your pets! In years past, we have witnessed some that have left there poor pets chained up outside in minus degree weather with nowhere to hide from the cold. If you are cold, your pet will be cold!

And to all the newbies that are spending the winter here, Montanan’s are a hardy bunch, they had to be! Northeastern Montanan’s are really tough but can beat the odds while traveling by being extra cautious and carrying a winter weather kit in their car. It just might save your life.

Here is a link for you with suggestions of what to keep in that kit.

We would like to say a big “Thank you” to Deann Ketchum this past week for helping me out. It is very much appreciated.

We are told by Fire Board member, Anthony Hebert, that the construction up by the old Elementary Saint Marie school is the site of a Nemont cellular tower. Anthony is a good one and very knowledgeable on Saint Marie facts and history.

Frank was sitting at the breakfast table, waiting to be served, when he looked up at the digital thermometer and was flummoxed to see that there was NO temperature. He yelled out that there is no temperature in Montana because the Gauge said “0”. Thus no temperature.

Should I tell him or do you want to?

Leaving you with this quote:

"I’ve seen better days but I’ve also seen worse.

I don’t have everything I want, but I do have all I need.

I woke up with some aches and pains, but I woke up.

My life may not be perfect but I know I am blessed."

Hopefully, you will have the best 2022 ever. Happy New Year to all!
