Scottie Boys Split Home Opener

Fall to Glendive, Beat Sidney

The Glasgow boys basketball team split their games this past week – falling to the Glendive Red Devils 55-27 on Thursday and rebounding to down the Sidney Eagles 59-42 on Friday.

Glendive lit up the scoreboard first in the Thursday showdown, keeping Glasgow from scoring until midway through the quarter when Keigan Ingram connected on a field goal. The Class A Red Devils built up an 11-5 lead after the first eight minutes.

The visitors connected on five three-pointers in the second quarter as they ran up their lead to 32-19 going into the half. Glendive continued to dominate the game after the break, putting up 11 points in the third and 12 in the fourth quarter. At the same time, the home team put up 6 and 2 points.

Wyatt Babb led Glasgow in scoring with 11 points. Ingram added 5 and Miller hit a trey while Ashton Potter, Riley Smith, KJ Ingram and Beau Malnaa had two points a piece.

Glendive had 10 fouls in the game, four in the second half, while Glasgow held their fouls to eight, five in the second half. Malnaa was called for two. Aiden Hoerster, Dalton Sand, Smith, Babb, KJ Ingram and Miller were each called for one foul.

The Scotties pulled down eight offensive rebounds and 15 defensive boards. They had 10 steals, but 18 turnovers. Miller had Glasgow’s two assists.

The Glasgow JV team fell to the visitors 46-37. Vaughn Miller led Glasgow in scoring with 10 points. Myles Yoakam added 9, Toryn Richards 6, Nate Hentges 5, Hoerster 4 and Ty Westby 3 points.

The C Squad won their game by an 11-point margin, 48-37. Yoakam scored 21 points in the victory, including four treys. Rex Monson scored 9, Noah Runner 6, Kyler Holinde 4, Dylan Plummer and Nic Solorzano 3 each, and Noah Leckie 2 points.

Friday’s game against the Class A Eagles looked to go much the same for the Scotties when Sidney started the game with a baseline three-pointer. But Babb answered with a field goal followed by a three-pointer of his own to give the Scotties the lead. A field goal and bonus free throw from Keigan Ingram took the Scotties to an 8-3 lead as they set out to put the previous evening’s loss behind them.

Sidney answered with some more treys to take the lead, setting off a back-and-forth first half. The visitors held a 25-19 lead late in the second quarter but the Scotties battled back to tie the game at 25 heading into the break.

Back on the court, Glasgow took a 29-25 lead less than 30 seconds into play. Miller hit a three and Babb added the bonus free throw after being fouled on a field goal to extend Glasgow’s lead to 10 points. The home team continued to build up their lead as the Eagles ran into foul trouble, sending the Scotties into bonus free throws in the third quarter.

A Keigan Ingram field goal took Glasgow’s lead to 17 points to start the fourth and a putback by Miller extended it to 19 points. Sidney continued to foul, sending Glasgow into double bonus territory.

Glasgow’s second string held the line in the final minutes of the game, fending off Sidney to secure Glasgow’s victory.

“Sidney shot 10-12 in the first half and 5-7 from 3,” said Scottie head coach Paul Yoakam. “We continued to limit their shots in the second half. There was no way Sidney could continue to shoot at that percentage. Offensively we were really patient [and] manufactured high percentage shots. Also, we finally broke out of our free throw shooting slump.”

Babb led all scorers with 19, including a three-pointer. Keigan Ingram added 16 points, going 6-for-9 at the free throw line. Miller added 14 points with a three and a perfect 5-for-5 at the line. Malnaa and Smith put 4 each and Sand added 2 points.

The Scotties pulled down 15 offensive boards and 12 defensive rebounds. They had 16 steals and 13 turnovers. Glasgow had three blocks – two from Keigan Ingram and one from Babb. Miller had six of the team’s 10 assists.

The JV team turned in an exciting last minute 46-44 victory over the Sidney JV team. Hoerster connected for 24 points in the win. Richards and Miller each scored 8 points while Westby and Yoakam added 3 a piece. The JV record now stands at 4-1 on the season.

The C Squad won their game by another 11-point margin, 28-17. Yoakam scored 9 points to lead the team. Monson put up 6, Connor Hydyma 4, Runner and Solorzano 3 each, Leckie 2 and Plummer scored a free throw.

The C Squad hosted the Malta Mustangs on Monday after press time.

Glasgow JV and Varsity host the Malta Mustangs this evening, Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 5 and 8 p.m., respectively, in the GHS gymnasium.
