Lustre Boys Win Two

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team added another two decisive wins to their record this past week. On Friday, they defeated Porcupines 80-30 in Nashua. The Lions downed the Culberston Cowboys 73-31 in their home opener Saturday night.

The Lions put up 22 points in their first eight minutes in Nashua while holding the home team to 6 points. They doubled their own points in the second quarter to take a 44-13 lead into the half. Lustre put up 20 points in the third and 16 in the fourth quarter as they rolled to victory.

Four Lions hit double-digit scoring as Jasiah Hambira put up 17 points, Elijah Lenihan 14, Cayden Klatt 12 and Kolden Hoversland 10. Braden Ewing added 7 points, Kaleb Hoversland and Alex Chen 5 each, Gabe Alves 4, Clay Reddig 3 and Bryan Chen 2 points.

Kolden Hoversland pulled down eight rebounds for Lustre while Ewing and Hambira had five each. Hambira had six steal and Kolden Hoversland and Lenihan added five each. Klatt had four assists and Kaleb Hoversland added three.

The Lions turned in a similar performance at home against the Cowboys, putting up 21 points in the first quarter and 22 in the second as they ran up a 43-18 lead at the half. In the second half they held Culbertson to 7 points in the third and 4 in the final quarter while adding 12 and 18 points to their side of the scoreboard in the same quarters.

Kolden Hoversland led all players with 28 points, including 12-for-14 from the charity stripe. Ewing and Klatt contributed 12 points each with Klatt hitting two treys. Leniahn added 9, Reddig 6 and Hambira 4 points.

Hoversland pulled down 11 rebounds, had five steals and dished four assists in the Lions' win. Ewing added five rebounds and four steals. Lenihan also added four steals, as well as two assists.

Lustre traveled to Bainville Monday evening and hosted the Scobey Spartans Tuesday but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Lions host the Frazer Bearcubs Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, with games beginning at 4:30 p.m.
