Scottie Basketball Teams Pick Up First Wins

Boys 41-38 Over Joliet

The Scottie boys basketball team picked up their first win of the 2021-2022 season this past weekend at the Wooden Memorial Tournament in Red Lodge this past weekend.

Glasgow lost game one to the host team 55-50 on Friday in an overtime thriller then came back to defeat Joliet 41-38 Saturday.

The Scotties played Red Lodge tight throughout the game. Glasgow trailed by only one at the end of the first quarter,10-9, and at the half, 18-17. Red Lodge held only a two-point advantage, 29-27, heading into the final quarter when Glasgow tied the game, 41-41,to send it to overtime. In the extra time, free throws and treys put the home team on top.

Freshman center Wyatt Babb led the Scotties in scoring with 15 points, including one three-pointer. Riley Smith added 12 points for Glasgow. Dalton Sand put up 8 points, Beau Malnaa had 7, Bergen Miller 6 and KJ Ingram 2.

Glasgow had 18 fouls in the game, eight in the first half and 10 in the second, with Sand fouling out. Babb was called four four fouls, Ingram three, Smith and Miller two each, and Ashton Potter one.

The Scotties went 6-for-14 from the charity line for a 42.8 free throw percentage. They connected on 19 field goals and two three-pointers.

Saturday night the Scotties took a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to build on throughout the game, fending off a second-half surge from Joliet, to claim the 41-38 victory.

Glasgow built up their lead to double digits, 23-13, going into halftime. Joliet outscored Glasgow 10-8 in the third to bring the score to 31-23. In the final quarter of play, Joliet put up 15 points to Glasgow's 10, but were unable to take the game from the Scotties.

Babb and Smith again led the Scotties in scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Malnaa contributed 8 and Miller added 5 points.

Glasgow kept their fouls to 13 in the game, seven in the first half and six in the second. Smith had four fouls, Babb three, Miller and Sand two each and Malnaa and one.

The Scotties put up 11 field goals and four three-pointers, including two from Malnaa. They went 7-for-18, a 38.8 percentage.

In JV action, the Scottie boys attended the Wolf Point Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend where they took on Frazer and Nashua. On Friday, the Scotties defeated the Bearcubs 63-30. Saturday, the Scotties defeated the Porcupines 47-14.

The Scotties will be at home this weekend with games against Glendive on Thursday, Dec. 16, and Sidney on Friday, Dec. 17.

On Thursday, the C squad will play at 3:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Church. JV action will also start at 3:30 in the Scottie gym. Boys varsity will start at 8 p.m. in the high school gym.

Friday, C squad plays at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gym. JV action starts at 4:30 p.m. and varsity is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Games in the GHS gym will be carried on the NFHS network and varsity games will be on KLTZ radio.

On Wednesday, Dec. 22, the Scotties host the Malta Mustangs for Glasgow's Color Rush night. Games will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the GHS gymnasium.
