Nashua Girls Take Two

The Nashua girls basketball team found their game in Wolf Point at the Tip-Off Tournament, snagging two wins over the weekend. The Porcupines downed the Poplar JV squad 54-31 and defeated the Glasgow JV team 41-12.

Nashua took a double-digit lead in the first quarter, 15-5, against the Indians and never looked back. The Porcupines put up another 15 points in the second while holding Poplar to a single field goal.

Poplar came out stronger after the break, putting up 12 points in each the third and fourth quarters. But Nashua held even with 13 in the third and 12 in the fourth for the 54-31 win.

Tia Dees led the Porcupines in scoring with 18 while Kaitlyn Miller added 12 points. Alexis Murdock scored 9 points for the victors, Hadynn Adkins put in 6 points, and Deja Morgan added 5 to the scoreboard. Alyssa Murdock and Gracyn Sibley added 2 points a piece.

Nashua had only eight fouls in the game with five of those coming in the second half. Miller and Adkins were called for three each while Morgan and Courtney Tolzein had one a piece.

The Porcupines had 24 chances at the free throw line but connected on only nine of those, for a 38 percent success rate.

Nashua found equal success Saturday evening as they routed the Scottie JV team 41-12. The Scotties managed only 4 points in the first, 2 in the second, 2 in the third and 4 again in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Porcupines put in 11, 8, 15 and 7 points in each quarter.

Dees again led Nashua in scoring, this time with 23 points. Adkins scored 6, Miller 5, Morgan 4 and Alexis Murdock 2 points.

Nashua had 15 fouls, six in the first half. Adkins and Gwinevere Abern were called for three each. Alyssa Murdock, Miller, Morgan and Dees had two a piece and Keelyn Skolrud was called for one.

The Porcupines had a 41 percent success rate at the charity line, going 7-for-17.

Nashua hosts Lustre Friday, Dec. 17, with the girls varsity playing at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 21, they host the North Country Mavericks with the girls varsity game at 7:30 p.m. The Dodson Coyotes will be in Nashua on Wednesday, Dec. 22., with games beginning at 3 p.m.
