Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Cumber's Corner

My last day with USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service was on October 29, 2021. The decision to retire wasn't easy especially because I enjoyed working with all of you.

Valley County is an agricultural community consisting of people who are committed, honorable and extremely proud. Valley County is where I call home and hope my son will someday as well.

I wanted to touch base and share an idea I have been working on for a bit. The thought of offering information that might help in the everyday decisions of our farmers and ranchers aka producers (those that feed the world) would be exhilarating. For the past couple of weeks, since my retirement, I have been working with my husband and I absolutely love every minute of everyday.

I also have always wanted to teach agriculture in our schools and I would love to see FFA return to Glasgow. I am a Certified Range Professional through the Society of Range Management and based on my years of experience and education, I qualify for an Agricultural teaching license and have begun the process. I will be reaching out when I switch to the FFA possibility. My wish is to give our children a meaning and purpose to stay, continue with us and continue long after we are gone.

My idea for now is to create a column titled "Cumber's Corner" At the very least it will be a way to stay connected to all of you and to share what I have learned and experienced in agriculture throughout my lifetime. So stay tuned because....

Proud Momma

November 10, 1775 was the year the Corp was born.

On November 10, 1775, Captain Samuel Nicholas sets up the first Marine Corps recruiting headquarters at

Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA, looking for "a few good men." The "Few and the Proud" who make up today's ranks are comprised of men and women who have the resolve to fight and win for our Nation's common cause.

November 10, 2021 was the year my son became a Marine.
