Underpass Mural Vandalized

Mayor Erickson Offering $100 for Info Leading to Arrest

It took months of hard work by volunteers to paint the mural along the Glasgow downtown underpass, and only minutes for a vandal to leave their grubby marks in the form of graffiti.

Patrolman Scott Campbell and Senior Patrolman Josh Nolan were contacted by The artist, Cat McIntyre, about the incident.

The Glasgow Police Department is taking the mural defacing seriously and have come up with plans to seek out and apprehend any further defacing incidents.

"It is disappointing to see this happen but not all that surprising," Nolan said. "No matter where you are in life, there will always be someone that wants to bring down a good thing, the mural is important to this community and we will do everything we can to prevent and make sure this sort of behavior is not tolerated."

Mayor Becky Erickson is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the culprit.

"As everyone else in Glasgow, I was extremely disturbed to see the graffiti spray painted on the beautiful artwork on Glasgow's downtown underpass," Erickson said. "Vandalism of an artwork is illegal."

Erickson also referenced vandals who during the summer months destroyed three trees in the downtown area, each worth $300. She also has offered a $100 reward for information leading to the culprits in that case.

"These projects came about with grant monies, not Glasgow tax dollars," Erickson said. "My hope is with offering a $100 reward for each incident we can work with the people who committed these offenses. They can wash, repair or replace the damaged property and participate in positive acts that benefit the community and not take away from the community. Please report and knowledge of these acts to GPD."

Cat McIntyre and a small army of artists began working on the mural over the summer months. It is funded by an arts grant.

The mural features Glasgow throughout the decades. Pedestrians start on one side in the Old West and progress up through the modern era.
