Scotties Defeat Eagles on Volleyball Court

The Glasgow Scottie volleyball team had a lone match this past week, making the journey to Sidney on Saturday to take on the Eagles. Glasgow improved their overall record to 9-2 after defeating the Class A team in three sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-23.

Coach Somer Hoerster described her team’s play as solid. “We were consistent and never gave up large point runs,” she said. “The girls played a nice steady, in-control match and I was very happy with everyone’s efforts.”

The win came with the Scotties missing starter Carly Nelson, who suffered an injury early last week. Hoerster praised her team for adapting well to the resulting lineup change. Glasgow notched 23 kills in the match, 24 blocks, 10 aces, 53 digs and 22 assists.

Abrianna Nielsen led in kills with seven and in aces with four. Tatum Nyquist and Klaire Krumwiede each had seven blocks in leading the Scotties. Blaire Westby registered 13 digs and Daley Aune racked up 19 assists to lead Glasgow.

Senior Scottie Krumwiede said, “I really think the best part about Sidney was the way we all played together. We played for each other and you could tell!” She also praised the Sidney pep band for creating a fun atmosphere in the Eagles’ gym.

In JV action, the Scotties hosted the Lustre Christian Lions last Tuesday. The home team won the match in four 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22. The JV game against Sidney was canceled. The Scottie C Squad lost in four sets, “but they played well!,” according to coach Brooke Martin.

The Scotties close out their regular season this week with two conference match ups. Glasgow will host Malta on Thursday and travel to Wolf Point on Saturday. Hoerster is anticipating tough matches. “I know both teams have improved over the course of the season,” she said, “and we’re going to have to play some clean and aggressive volleyball against them.”

“We are coming up on two challenging teams that are going to be really fun games,” Krumwiede said. “But it’s also our senior night on Thursday and it’s gonna be fun to play one final game in Scottie gym with that home crowd!”

Fellow senior Tyann Graham said, “It is an exciting week for our team! I think we are ready!”

Thursday, Oct. 21, Glasgow hosts the Malta M-ettes for Senior Night. C squad/JV/Varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Scottie gymnasium with the seniors being honored after the conclusion of the JV match. Games will be carried on Nemont TV.

Saturday, Oct. 23, the team travels to Wolf Point to play the Wolves with C squad action kicking off at 1 p.m. Games will be carried on the NFHS Network.
