Adventures in St. Marie
Want to know what happened this week in Saint Marie?
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf" — George Orwell "1984."
Flag at half-staff
The American Legion sent out a notice that United States flags on all Federal office buildings are to be flown at half-staff in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
This year, the memorial service was held on this past Sunday, Oct. 3, and pays a national tribute to all fallen firefighters.
And customarily, the White House proclaims display of the flag from sunrise to sunset by all Americans on that day.
Saint Marie Fire Department
On the evening of Sept. 24, we were out walking around Saint Marie and we heard the fire trucks and then saw them pull into an area that has vacant buildings.
We stopped to talk to the crew, Chief August Aho, Rob Esaias, Nick Degreek and Nate Waterson from Nashua’s Fire Department, who joins the crew time to time for Fire training.
The guy’s brought out for the first time the new tender that was just purchased to be used in Saint Marie.
Chief Aho stated that “we were training on nursing from tender to engine which can also be used for relay pumping in tight areas where you cannot fit trucks alongside each other."
Next training will be October 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Chief Aho stated he plans on running another drill that night to focus on tender operations.
• A big welcome to Austin McDaniel, son of our Glasgow Courier editor Chris McDaniel!
• Saint Marie Co-op and Coffee shop on Country Club, is possibly opening in October and there has been a lot of activity going on there.
• We will keep you posted when Pat Trotter let’s us know more!
Keep your dogs on a leash
As we were walking on Cedar Street the other day, a larger black and white aggressive dog came up to us and was snarling. It was not on a leash at the time, even though there are strict bylaws stating that all dogs are to be on a leash or tied up.
Please keep your animals under control before someone gets hurt.
Remembering
On Oct. 6, 2006, Frank, our daughter Cody, myself and our little Miniature Schnauzer left Hawaii, which was our home for 22 years.
Our life in Hawaii was very busy most of the time, we lived aboard our 41 foot multihull sailboat and cruised the islands.
We experienced many pleasant adventures and a few that were “scary.” Something wonderful to look back on.
We bought a double unit in Saint Marie and started a new life shuttling back and forth from Saint Marie to Billings where we helped my parents after my dad had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
We have met many wonderful people through the years here and in Glasgow.
We can not believe that it went by so quickly!
