Scottie Boys Run Away with First in Havre

Girls Place Third

The Glasgow Cross Country teams have found their legs and are striding through the 2021 season. The boys brought home a first place finish from the Havre Invitational on Sept. 11, while the girls earned a third place finish.

The Scottie girls earned 83 points, finishing behind Fergus, 46 points, and Havre, 76. Together, the girls put up a team total clock time of 2:01:31.76

Iris McKean and Tanae Baker led the Scottie girls with their top five performances. McKean placed third with a time of 20:11.95 and Baker ran a 21:34.82 for her fifth place finish.

Kheyerah Bilger finished in 26th place with a time of 25:10.26. Haylly Turner ran a 26:28.68 to earn a 38th place finish and Eve Stone rounded out the girls team with a time of 28:06.04 and 47th place.

Junior Turner told the Courier, “The course in Havre was good, it was a little muddy due to the rain, but otherwise it was good. It was also windy.” The Scottie also said she feels good about her season so far but is looking to improve still.

The boys team ran away with first place, Just under three minutes faster than the second-place Havre Blue Ponies. Glasgow’s boys combined for a score of 41 and a team time of 1:33:38.90 with three top ten finishers.

Freshman Kyler Holinde again led the Scottie boys, finishing in fifth place with a time of 17:56.13. Reed Larsen took sixth place with his time of 18:08.51 and Bergen Miller ran an 18:32.59 for 10th place. Tuner said, “Reed Larsen is definitely impressing me. He’s running very very well.”

Miller echoed Turner’s comments about the weather in Havre, “During the girls race it rained some, so the trail portion was a little mucky and it was a little windy.” Miller was also full of praise for his young teammate, Holinde. “The person whom I’m most impressed with is Kyler Holinde,” he said. “He’s a freshman who moved here this summer from Kansas and actually has our team’s number one time at 17:56. My guess is he’ll still improve a lot this season because I don’t think he’s remotely reached his potential.”

Lane Thompson finished in 11th place with a time of 18:45.10. Blake Lloyd and Eli Feezell placed 22nd and 23rd respectively. Lloyd ran a 20:16.54 and Feezell ran the race in 20:57.50.

Freshmen Adam Mickelson and Ted See took the 49th and 50th slots with times of 23:23.50 and 24:12.39 respectively. Ben Kompel ran a 25:01.47 to take 52nd place. Rounding out the roster for Glasgow were Owen Thompson in 64th place and James Seekins in 65th place. Thompson ran a 27:14.33 and Seekins ran a 28:18.45.

Miller has high hopes for the Scotties. “This season I am really looking forward to to the state meet,” he said. “our boys are ranked first in the state, and I’m just very excited to compete to be a state champion team.” He added, “Our top five guys are really exceeding expectations and our sixth is close behind. I”m impressed with everyone!” He himself has cut 10 seconds off his time at each competition, showing the Scotties growth this year.

The Scotties remain close to home this upcoming week. They host their one and only home meet on Saturday, Sept. 18 with the Scottie Invitational at Kiwanis Park in Fort Peck. The high school boys will race at 10 a.m. followed by high school girls at 10:45 a.m. Junior high girls will race at 11:30 a.m. and junior high boys at noon. On Thursday, Sept. 23, they attend the Bearcubs Invitational in Frazer at 5 p.m.
