Glasgow Middle School girls dominate home meet

Glasgow Middle School's girls cross country team placed all five of its scorers in the top 16 positions to take the team title at its home meet last Saturday at Sullivan Park.

The Scottie girls were paced by individual champion Kimber Dulaney. The 8th grader ran the 1.5-mile course in 10:03, a time that would have placed her among the top boys runners. Seventh-grader Haleigh Huntsman took third overall in a time of 10:43, and 8th grader Josie Kemp was 6th in 11:01. Other Glasgow scorers included Jensina Tweten,13th in 11:50, and Caylen Jankowski, 16th in 12:13.

Glasgow's other runners in the girls race included Rebekah Bailey, 29th in 13:55; Aspen Probert, 32nd in 15:20; Chloe Lamb,33rd in 15:22; and Karsyn Page, 39th in 16:33.

The GMS girls took first with 30 team points. Havre was second with 48 points, followed by Frontier with 84 points and Wolf Point with 85 team points. Other schools, which didn't have complete teams, were Scobey, Plentywood, Circle-Redwater, and Nashua.

On the boys side, the Scotties finished second to first-place Havre and ahead of Nashua. The GMS boys were led by 6th grader Garrett Thompson, who completed the 1.5 mile course in 10:45. Timothy Pearson was 10th in 11:03, followed by Rowen Kloker, 13th in 11:21; Aaron Mickelson, 32nd in 14:50; and Alex Earll, 33rd in 15:35. The race was open to 5th graders as well, and Holt Huntsman completed the course in 12:51 for 28th place.

"The Sullivan Park meet wasn't on our original schedule, but we pulled it together after learning we couldn't travel to other meets last week," says GMS cross country Coach Andrew McKean. "We had great participation from fellow schools, and amazing community turnout. It was nice to see our kids perform well before their home town crowd."

The GMS harriers will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 18 at their home meet at Kiwanis Park at Fort Peck, and then run at the 51st Frazer Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 23.
