Road Construction Continues on 2nd Avenue South

Motorists Should Expect Delays

Motorists traveling in downtown Glasgow may experience traffic delays as road crews demolish portions of South Second Avenue in advance of repaving the street.

On Friday, crews with Century Companies, Inc., closed 6th Street south of the railway to through traffic as they removed the top layer of asphalt on South 2nd Avenue west from the intersection. This portion is part of a larger project beginning at mile marker 7 on State Secondary Route 246, and extending southeast about seven miles.

Work began on July 19, with completion expected sometime in September.

Parking restrictions are expected to be announced in coming weeks along construction routes.

During the project, motorists should expect single lane traffic, reduced speeds, flaggers and pilot cars.

Heavy truck traffic is expected, causing possible 15-minute delays and congestion in the work zone.

As such, motorists are encouraged to seek other routes.

Crews will work from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Motorists are advised to watch for flaggers and construction signs posted throughout the work zone.
