Carnivals at the Fair

Remember When

I am remembering Fairs of the past. I remember hearing of the time the Valley Co, Fair grounds was located on the Airport hill.

Before my time and that of many of my friends!

Memories that some of many remember are when the fair was held in September.

What an inconvenience for school age exhibitors, or maybe it was a real excuse not to attend school.

If memory serves correct, livestock exhibitors were expected to go to the school, register, and then were able to check out to go and care for their livestock.

Things once again changed and for many years the fair was held in August, and now late July.

Could these changed have been based on when the carnival and other entertainment was available?

Speaking of Carnivals, does anyone remember, or even know that the carnivals use to pay the Fair Board to be able to come to the fair!

That is definitely not the case in the day and age. Currently we are "remembering" when there was a carnival.

Probably not too many of the older adults miss that too much but it is definitely missed by the younger generation.

Oh, something that may be missed by all is Horse Racing.

That was always exciting to take in, especially if you knew someone that had a race horse involved. Valley Co. fairs have always been a wonderful social event for all.
