Scottie Boys Yell 'Four'

Over fifty high school golfers converged on Sunnyside on April 30 for the Glasgow Invitational meet. The day started with perfect weather, but quickly turned hot and windy, upping the challenge level on a course known for its out-of-bounds challenges.

The Scottie teams stepped up to defend their home course with both the boys and girls claiming first place finishes. The Glasgow girls netted a combined score of 461, finishing ahead of Malta in second with 486 and Scobey in third with a score of 496.

The Glasgow boys turned in a team score of 461, beating out second-place Malta by 25 strokes. The Mustangs posted a score of 486. Scobey finished 10 strokes behind Malta, placing third with a score of 496.

"The meet was wonderful Friday," said head coach Todd Truscott. "To have the boys and girls sweep the team trophies is an amazing feeling and shows their hard work is paying off." The first-year coach said there were no surprises and praised his golfers for coming together as a team.

Bailee Baxter led the girls team with a score of 98, followed by Shanice Lagerquist at 101. Kylie Lagerquist turned in a score of 130, followed by Allie Palm with 132 and Alesia Hopstad with 138. Baxter placed second overall, behind Scobey's Sage Kilgore, who scored a 93. S. Lagerquist claimed third place overall. K. Lagerquist took eighth overall and Allie Palm placed ninth.

Riley Smith led the boys team, with his score of 82. Keigan Ingram turned in a 90 and Vinney Chappell scored a 98. Eli Feezell scored a 103 and Rance Rhoads rounded out the boys with a score of 108. Smith claimed the overall top spot at the meet and Ingram tied for second. Chappell took sixth place overall and Feezell finished in ninth place.

Maddie Swindler led the Scottie girls JV team, turning in a score of 135. Isabelle Hood scored 146 and Elle Stone had a score of 150.

Ian Peterson sat atop the Glasgow boys JV team with a score of 88, followed closely by Aiden Hoerster with 93. The Scotties will close out their regular season this weekend with an inter-squad competition at Sunnyside with the exact date and time to be announced and then move on to the post-season. Truscott said, "We are preparing for the post season the same as we prepare for every golf meet: stress putting and chipping and minimizing our bad shots!"

As the team approaches the end of their season, Truscott is pleased to be ending on a high note. "The highlight has to be every kid dropping scores and the boys winning four in a row," he enthused, "and the girls breaking through and getting their first win in a while."

The Division 1 Meet is scheduled in Shelby on Tuesday, May 11, and Senior Night will be Friday, May 14, at Sunnyside at 6 p.m.
