Nashua Looks Sharp

The Nashua Porcupines turned in an impressive showing at the Whitewater/Saco Invitational on April 30 in Glasgow, registering a number of personal records.The girls team placed sixth with a score of 38 while the boys placed fourth, also with 38 points. The team then traveled to Glendive on Saturday where the girls team took a 14th place finish with five points.

"We were lucky to have had two beautiful days of warm weather for track last weekend," said Nashua head coach Janice Rorvik. "The warm weather brought out a strong showing for athletes.

In Glasgow on Friday, Jace Nickels set a personal record and claimed third in the 100 meter dash with his time of 12:59. Also in the boys' sprints, Kevan Viste placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:05.69. Keelyn Skolrud took a sixth place finish in the 200m, running the girls' race in 33:57.

The Porcupines racked up more points in the field events, where they have done well all season. Fletcher Clampitt set a personal record of 36-06.50 in the shot put and claimed fifth place. Nickels earned more points for his team by taking fourth in the javelin with a throw of 123-08 and winning the long jump with a distance of 17-02.50. Xander Pugh set two personal records. The sophomore cleared 5-06 for second place and nailed a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 34-10.00. He also finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16-00.00.

"Xander has been improving weekly with his jumps and I am excited to see where he ends up at districts," Rorvik told the Courier.

Devin Fromdahl and Tia Dees again led the girls team in field events. Fromdahl set a personal record in the javelin with a throw of 100-03 to claim second place. She set a season record in the shot put and placed fourth with a toss of 29-10.25. The Nashua senior took third in the discus with a throw of 89-00. Fromdahl also set a personal record in the triple jump and placed sixth with a distance of 28-05.00.

Dees earned two second places. The sophomore placed second in the shot put with a throw of 30-11.75 and threw the discus 91-06. Also earning points for Nashua and setting a personal record in the shot put was junior Hadynn Adkins, who had a throw of 29-05.75.

At the Glendive Elk's Invitational on May 1, Fromdahl placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 97-04 and sixth in the discus with a personal record of 96-05. Dees took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 31-09.00.

"This was a challenging meet with minimum requirements for throws and jumps," Rorvik explained. "Our athletes put forth a worthwhile effort and we did end up bringing home a few ribbons." She added, "I am proud of these kids giving their all every meet and striving to meet individual goals. They put in so much time and the hard work and it great to see it pay off for them."

Dees and Fromdahl represented Nashua at the Top 10 Meet in Glasgow on May 4. The team is scheduled to attend the Gene Nelson Memorial Invite in Wolf Point on Friday, May 7, and the Jean Dreikosen Memorial Track Meet in Glasgow on Saturday, May 8. Events at both meets will begin at 9 a.m.
