Porcupines Have 'Quill'er Week

The Nashua Porcupines hit two track and field meets last week, traveling to Wolf Point and Whitewater for competition. The boys took sixth at the North East Montana Invite last Tuesday and seventh in Whitewater on Friday. The girls reversed the boys places, taking seventh in Wolf Point and sixth at the Whitewater Invitational.

"The Wolf Point meet was a positive showing for us. We had many of our athletes place," said head coach Janice Rorvik.

All the boys' points came from the field events at both meets. Fletcher Clampitt, Jace Nickels and Xander Pugh put Nashua on the board. Clampitt set a personal record in the shot put at Wolf Point, with a distance of 37-7, which earned him a fifth place finish. Jace Nickels took second place in the javelin, throwing 123-09. Xander Pugh took fourth in the high jump at 5'04 and second in the triple jump with a leap of 34'06, a personal record.

In Whitewater, Clampitt earned all of Nashua's points. The senior placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 33-10.25. He set a personal record and finished first in the javelin with his throw of 129-09.

On the girls' side, Hanna Toavs, Tia Dees, Devin Fromdahl and the 4x100 relay team of Hadynn Adkins, Fromdahl, Toavs, and Deja Morgan were the point earners for the Porcupines. On the track, Toavs ran the 100m in 15.13 to place fifth in Wolf Point, and the 4x100 relay team placed fourth with a time of 59.94.

Dees and Fromdahl led the team in field events with four top six finishes. Dees placed second in the shot put with a toss of 32'06 while Fromdahl was sixth with her distance of 28'03. Dees also tied for first in the discus with a throw of 88'04. Fromdahl threw the javelin 85'09 to claim fourth place.

In Whitewater, Dees tossed the shot put 31'04.25 to earn third place. She won the discus with a personal record throw of 97'03. Fromdahl placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 90'04. She also placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 86'08, a personal best for the senior.

"I am quite proud of the athletes and the time and effort they are putting into their evetns during practice to improve," Rorvik added. "We are nearing the end of the season adn all their hard work will be worth it as we enter these last few weeks of competition."
