Dees and Fromdahl Put Nashua on the Board At Fergus Invitational

Porcupines Showing Improvement

The Nashua Porcupines took nine athletes to Lewistown this past Saturday to compete in the Fergus Invitational. Head coach Janice Rorvik told the Courier, "The day turned out to be sunny and mild with no wind which was great for our runners, throwers and jumpers."

Tia Dees and Devin Fromdahl scored points to put Nashua on the scoreboard at the event. Dees had a toss of 31'3 in the shot put to take fifth place while Fromdahl claimed sixth in the discus with a throw of 92'7. Dees was one inch behind her, and just missed placing. The two tied for seventh in the javelin with throws of 80'4.

Rorvik highlighted that her team had several runners earn personal records in Lewistown, with Keelyn Skolrud, Hanna Toavs, Deja Morgan and Alyssa Murdock turning in their best performances so far. "I believe all of our athletes are improving and meeting personal goals which is what any coach wants," she said.

The Nashua coach noted that Jace Nickels in javelin and Dees in the throwing events have stood out early in the season. "This is Jace's first year of throwing javelin and he is currently leading our boys team for distance in this event," Rorvik said. "He has improved by at least 30 feet already this year from his first meet until now."

"Tia Dees' performances have also all been noteworthy this year. She has placed in every meet she has competed in which is significant for a sophomore who is really experiencing high school level track and field for the first time," Rorvik said of the athlete who missed last year when the spring sports season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I am looking forward to seeing continued improvement in all of my athletes and getting some invites to the Top 10 meet coming up in May," Rorvik said. "We have districts in about a month and I am looking forward to our athletes being at their peak when that rolls around.

Nashua was scheduled to attend the North East Montana Invite in Wolf Point on April 20, but results were not available at press time. The Porcupines will travel to Whitewater on Friday, April 23, for the Whitewater Invitational with field events beginning at 8:30 a.m. and track events starting at 9:30 a.m.
