Valley County COVID-19 Update

County Down to Five Active Reported Cases - Still a Need to Keep Preventing Spread

The Valley County Health Department announced on March 29 that the county is down to five active cases of COVID-19. A mere three new cases have been recorded since the previous update from the department on March 22. Two of those cases were in the 30-39 age range, one male and one female, and one male in the 60-69 bracket.

To date, Valley County has registered 874 total coronavirus cases. The county has recorded 11 deaths from the virus while 858 persons are considered recovered. Per the Valley County Health Department, 64 cases required hospitalization.

Valley County has opened up vaccinations to all eligible persons in the county. Individuals may call 228-6261 to schedule an appointment or visit the sign-up link, available at valleycountymt.net/department/health_department. Vaccination clinics are schedule every Wednesday at St. Raphael’s gymnasium.

Currently, 1,184 persons are fully vaccinated in Valley County, of an eligible population of 5,917. The county has a 20 percent vaccination rate as of March 29. Experts do not yet know what percentage of vaccination is necessary to achieve herd immunity to COVID-19. However, health experts across the country are aiming for an 80 to 90 percent rate to protect members of the population who are unable to receive the vaccine.

The Valley County Health Department continues to promote COVID-19 prevention to achieve their three stated goals: Protect the vulnerable (elderly/compromised immune system/underlying health conditions), keep students in school, and keep adults at work.
