HS Ice Dawgs Drop Two, Show Improvement

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs high school team may have dropped two games while in Bozeman over the weekend, but the team is improving in ways not reflected by the final scores. Though the team continues to struggle when it comes to scoring, the Ice Dawgs turned in two of the cleanest games they've played this season.

The Dawgs have served an inordinate amount of time in the penalty box this season which has contributed to several losses this season as opponents have taken advantage of their man-advantages. In an 11-1 loss on Feb. 6 to the Bozeman Icedogs, Glasgow was called for only a single infraction. Sunday's game saw more scoring action from Glasgow and only two penalties with a final score of 13-3. Assistant coach Del Hansen said the team had success with several aspects of the game, though scoring has been a constant challenge for the Dawgs. The team continues to play short handed, down five players in the two games, but the Dawgs are dealing with the challenge.

On Saturday, Bozeman took a 2-0 lead in the first period and put the puck past Brayden Hansen six more times in the second period. The Icedogs added two more goals in the third before Colter Barnett found the back of the net for Glasgow. Bozeman added one more goal before the final buzzer for the 11-1 victory. Hansen faced an overwhelming 62 shots from between the pipes while the Dawgs put 11 pucks on net at the other end of the ice. Trevor Dulaney served Glasgow's lone penalty for interference in the second period.

Sunday morning saw a similar start as Bozeman again took a 2-0 lead in the first. The Icedogs put up a power play goal early in the second period while Ian Peterson was in the box for roughing. Jackson Bishop put the Ice Dawgs on the board with an assist from Barnett less than two minutes later. The rest of the period, though, belonged to the home team, who put four more pucks past Aidin Wilkowski.

Bozeman netted the first goal after intermission, but Barnett answered back in 12 seconds later on an assist from Bishop. The Icedogs scored another goal before Barnett found his way past the Bozeman net minder on assists from Kaden Kummerfeldt and Tatum Hansen. Barnett's goal marked the end of Glasgow's scoring while Bozeman still had four more pucks to put in net.

Wilkowski faced 49 attempts on his net while his teammates mustered 18 shots on the Icedogs. In addition to Peterson's roughing call, Dulaney served an interference penalty in the third period.

Glasgow will have a chance to avenge their losses this weekend as the Bozeman Icedogs will be in town for a pair of games. Pucks will drop at the Valley Event Center Saturday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.
