Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Ross Orlin Southland

Ross Orlin Southland, 68, of Scobey, Mont., passed away on January 26, 2021 at the Daniels Memorial Healthcare Center due to COVID-19. A celebration of his life service will be planned later in the year.

Ross was born on July 21, 1952 in Scobey to Reginald and Jane (Cole) Southland. He lived on the farm in Whitetail, until moving into the Pioneer Inn in Scobey several years ago. Ross attended Whitetail grade school, special education school in Glasgow, and Flaxville High School where he graduated in 1975.

Ross knew almost everyone in Daniels County and enjoyed going to sports events and visiting with friends. He was a good card player and was competitive in the winter card tournaments. He loved attending the County Fair, basketball games, and community events. Ross was kind, gentle, and always genuine.

Being a Down's Syndrome baby, he wasn't expected to live a long life. He survived hip surgery, dialysis, and a kidney transplant. He had a great life and was loved by everyone blessed to meet him. He was set in his ways & routines, loved the local newspaper, slot machines, cards, crossword puzzles, shrimp, a cold beer, popcorn, bubble gum, weekly bingo, sports, rodeo, and his hometown of Scobey. His mind was sharp, he knew local history, and he was seldom ever wrong when he was challenged.

Everyone that knew him, knew he did things his way!

Ross was preceded in death by his parents Reginald and Jane Southland, and brother-in-law Dallas Hackmann. He is survived by sister Nanci Hackmann, sister Marilyn Parke, nephew Todd Southland, great nephew Regus Bellanger, niece Bobbi Jo Hackmann, niece Kim Gillies, niece Jana Jackson, and their families.

Condolences may be mailed to the family at PO Box 113, Flaxville, MT 59222 and memorials may be made to the Whitetail Sports Club. Waller Funeral Home of Scobey has charge of arrangements. Friends may stop by the funeral home to sign the book and pay their respects.  Cremation has taken place.
