Scottie Girls Add Two to Win Column

The Glasgow Scottie Girls basketball team appears to have found their game legs a few weeks into the season. The team added two wins to their record this weekend, defeating two class A schools, Sidney and Glendive. Friday night, the Scotties defeated the Eagles 51-36 in Sidney. They hosted the Red Devils on Saturday and beat the visitors 38-24.

The Scotties took a slim one-point lead at the end of the first eight minutes of play in Sidney. Abrianna Nielsen led Glasgow with seven of her team's 12 points, putting in a 3, a 2, and two free-throws. Blaire Westby added three points, including a free throw and Riley Noser added two points from the line. Glasgow took command of the game in the second quarter, putting 16 on their side of the scoreboard while holding Sidney to four points. Noser powered the Scotties with six points, including two from the line. Tyann Graham and Daley Aune put in two buckets each and Nielsen put in two free throws.

After the break, the Eagles attempted a comeback but fell short in the third quarter as the Scotties outscored them 11-9. The Scotties balanced their scoring in the third quarter as Nielsen, Westby, Aune, and Noser had two each and Alexys Mann added a three pointer. Each team put up 12 points in the fourth, with Glasgow winning the game 51-36. Noser again led Glasgow, putting in three buckets for six points. Nielsen added four points, including two from the charity line and Aune added two.

Sidney encountered foul trouble in the first half of the game, racking up 11 in 16 minutes of play, while Glasgow held their fouls to five. In the second half, the roles reversed as Glasgow was called for nine fouls, and Sidney for five. Free throws made a difference in the game with the Scotties hitting 68 percent from the line, hitting 13 of 19 attempts. Nielsen went 6-for-6, Westby was 3-for-4 and Noser 4-for-9 from the line for Glasgow. Sidney meanwhile was unable to capitalize on their bonus shots, making only six of the 20 free throws for 30 percent from the line.

Noser led Glasgow with 16 points and three fouls in the game. Nielsen put up 15 points and four fouls. Aune scored eight points, Westby had five and one foul, Graham four points and one foul, and Mann had three points and two fouls.

At home on Saturday, the Red Devils and the Scotties struggled to get the action going. A number of missed shots led to a low-scoring first quarter with the visitors going up 5-2 after eight minutes. Aune scored the only points for the home team in the quarter. Glasgow made up for the slow start in the second quarter, outscoring Glendive 15-4 to take a 17-9 lead into halftime. Westby spurred on the Scotties, scoring six points, including two free throws. Aune added two baskets and Nielsen drained a three pointer, while Noser netted two points for the home team.

Returning to the hardwood after the break, both teams continued to perfect their passing games, putting up only six points on each side of the scoreboard. Noser had two buckets for Glasgow and Graham had one. The Scotties added another 15 points in the final quarter while they held the Red Devils to 9. Graham led the home team with a three pointer and four from the line as Glendive racked up fouls in an attempt to slow the clock. Aune added four points, and Noser and Davyn Myrick each had a basket.

Glendive had five fouls in the first half and 10 in the second. Glasgow turned in a relatively clean game with five in the first half and three fouls in the second. Glasgow went 6-for-14 from the line and Glendive was 3-for-7. Aune led the Scotties with 10 points and one foul. Graham had 9 points and two fouls, while Noser had points and two fouls. Westby had 6 points, Nielsen 3 and one foul, and Myrick had 2 points.
