Red Ribbon Week Scavenger Hunt

Red Ribbon Week is a national movement to promote drug free youth and is held annually during the last week of October. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon Campaign has touched millions of lives around the world. The campaign was established in response to the murder of Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena of the US Drug Enforcement Agency. His kidnapping, torture, and death at the hands of drug traffickers sparked outrage in communities around the United States. Parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the death and destruction caused by drugs in America. 

 The Valley CARE Coalition and Eastern Montana Community Mental Health Center are partnering together to hold a community wide scavenger hunt during Red Ribbon Week. The scavenger hunt features local venues where youth can spend time without the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as locations where anyone in the community can go for help with substance use disorders. 

 Red ribbons will be posted at each of the locations. Clues for their whereabouts will be released daily on the Valley CARE Coalition Facebook page (@ValleyCARECoalition) beginning Monday, October 26. Ribbons will remain at the locations for the entire week, so students, families, and individuals can follow the clues whenever they have time. Participants who take a photo with the ribbon can submit the image to be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card. Each location will count as an additional entry.
