Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Lady Scotties went on the road this past week battling it out against Sidney on Oct. 8 and Plentywood on Oct. 10. Both match-ups were rematches for the Scotties as the teams faced each other once already earlier this season on Glasgow's home court.
After securing a win against Sidney in three earlier this season, the Lady Scotties were fired up and ready to play, securing the win again in three, 25-16, 25-10, 25-8.
"They had high energy and were really loud and enthusiastic. It was a great overall group effort from everyone and even if they had a small mistake, they bounced back very quickly from it," explained coach Somer Hoerster. "They played a really solid match against Sidney and I was really proud of them."
The Lady Scotties hoped to take the momentum on the road with them to Plentywood and seek revenge for the win Plentywood achieved in five earlier this season. This match-up would see the Scotties battling it out with the Wildcats in four, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19 with Plentywood taking home the win. The loss brings the Scotties' record to 6-5 on the season.
Hoerster admits the girls came out pretty flat against Plentywood, making errors at key times that affected the outcome of the games.
Between game two and three however the energy and groove picked up. By game three the team finally found their rhythm, achieving great offense moves and obtaining huge blocks, contributing to the game's win. The Lady Scotties had hoped to keep that momentum going into game four, however the three minute break in between the games resulted in a break of jiveness.
"It's too bad that we got the win and had to stop and take a three-minute break between games because we were rolling pretty good, but sometimes that is all it takes. Momentum is easy to come and go in this game," stated Hoerster.
Hoerster also credits the advantage the Wildcats have are their hitters, two players who are six feet tall, having the ability to hit the ball so hard resulting in a loss of balance for the Scotties during the whole match. The Scotties do not see hitters that tall anywhere else in the division making it tough since the tallest Scottie is around 5 feet 8 inches.
The Scotties are looking forward to a few home matches this week with Pink Night against Wolf Point on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with C squad action starting at 4:30 p.m. and Senior Night against Glendive on Saturday, Oct. 17 with C squad action starting at 1 p.m. The Scotties were tentatively scheduled to travel to Harlem on Thursday, Oct. 15, however that has now been shifted to a varsity double header next Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Scottie gymnasium.
The Glasgow School District will be limiting spectators for at least the next two weeks due to surging COVID-19 numbers in Valley County. Scottie athletes and coaches will receive four ticket vouchers each while visiting players and coaches will be limited to two vouchers each. A ticket voucher will be required to watch the game from the gymnasium. All matches will be broadcasted on the NFHS network.
"We always look forward to home matches and of course we are excited to get to celebrate our seniors. We also haven't gotten to play Harlem yet and we had some great games with them last year so that will be fun to get to see them finally," stated Hoerster.
As the season starts to wind down before the District Tournament in a few weeks, Hoerster admits she hopes to continue to see improvements and growth from the team.
