Lady Scotties Earn Wins At Home

After Harlem unexpectedly canceled their scheduled match-up against the Scotties on Sept. 29, the Scotties continued their week when the Malta Mustangs traveled to Glasgow to play the Scotties on home court on Oct. 1. The Scotties gained the win in three, 25-14, 25-17, 25-8. Glasgow achieved 31 kills, five blocks, 11 aces, 14 digs and 32 assists.

"The girls were really fired up for a match. The excitement of Homecoming week and having a home crowd really set the tone for some high energy play," explained coach Somer Hoerster.

Hoerster was happy with how all of the girls played as errors were kept down and consistent energy was maintained throughout the match. Abrianna Nielsen led in kills with nine and in aces with six. Blaire Westby led the team in digs with six, while Rachelle Glaser led the team in assists with 28.

"By game three, Malta really struggled passing the ball and their offense completely broke down. Our crowd was also really loud and I know that really helped our girls on our side of the net," said Hoerster.

Taking the momentum of their win, the Scotties were scheduled to play their Homecoming match against Fairview on Oct. 3. However, on the afternoon of Oct. 2, Fairview announced they would have to cancel the match. After trying to fill the date last minute with other schools, it was announced there would be no Homecoming match. On the morning of Oct. 3 however the Nashua Porcupines had a cancellation themselves and were ready to fill the void.

"Initially the girls were really bummed with having Fairview cancel. Of course they wanted to cap their Homecoming weekend with a match. We knew Mr. Flaten would do the best he could to come up with something so when he called Saturday morning, I said of course the girls want to play. They're always willing to put on a uniform and get out there, especially with all of the delays and cancellations we have had," explained Hoerster.

The girls would go on and take the win 25-15, 25-13, 25-17. Glasgow achieved 35 kills, 10 aces, 16 digs and 33 assists while Nashua achieved five kills, three assists, four aces, 36 digs and three blocks.

"Nashua is a young team in general but they did some things pretty well. They had a nice blocking presence at the net that made us work and they had some experienced hitters that did a good job of keeping the ball in play," stated Hoerster.

Glasgow's Nielsen led the team in kills with 13 while Glaser led the team in assists with 33. Daley Aune led the team in aces with four and Blaire Westby led the team in digs with seven. On the Porcupine side, Hannah Toavs led the team in kills with three while Hadynn Adkins led the team in assists with three. Devin Fromdahl, Alex Murdock, Hannah Toavs and Adkins each achieved one ace, while Fromdahl and Toavs each led in digs with 10 each. Tia Dees led the team with two blocks.

The Scotties are scheduled to travel to Sidney on Thursday, Oct. 8, with game action starting at 4:30 p.m. with C squad action. The Scotties are also tentatively scheduled to travel to Poplar on Friday, Oct. 9 and then to Plentywood on Saturday, Oct. 10.

"Plentywood is going to be another demanding contest for us. We are hoping to be able to have a challenging week of practice to prepare for it again and I know the girls are hungry for a rematch with them," expressed Hoerster.
