Paving To Start Downtown

To Glasgow Residents,

The City of Glasgow’s priority work area for this year’s Annual Paving Project is the two City blocks on 2nd Ave. South between 4th Street South and 6th Street South. The City recognizes this two block stretch of street as the downtown hub for many of Glasgow’s businesses and public attractions. In an effort to improve access and to keep our down town vibrant, we will be rehabilitating the street grade and resurfacing that section of 2nd Ave. South. The cost of this project is $138,000.

Street improvement/Rehab Projects are funded by a combination of sources such as: Gasoline Infrastructure Tax, Coal and Fuel Tax Revenue from the State, City Capital Improvement Funds (your tax dollars), Repairs from Water and Sewer Projects, and Solid Waste Repair Funds. It is important to note that all these sources vary in the amount the City receives year to year, which makes it a challenge to budget our expenditures in advance of receiving the funds.

The City has spent the following amount on street improvements; 2106 spent $310,867, 2017 spent $380,000, in 2018 spent $275,048, in 2019 spent $125,000 on Street Improvements.

In 2020, $219,000 is allocated for 2nd street rehabilitation and Ayr Street from the East Side School to Lomond, and Park Street from 6th North to 5th Street North as well as 8 to 10 spot repairs and $65,000.00 towards the annual Concrete Project. Currently a $483,000 sewer improvement project is also taking place on Park Street, 6th Street North and 2nd Ave. North.

The City used 39 tons of cold mix to address curb lines and sewer digs and 75 tons of dura patch mix to fill pot holes so far this year. Within the City limits we have 32.6 miles of streets and alleys to maintain.

Weather dependent, the work on 2nd Ave. south is scheduled to begin on Oct. 14 and occur through the following week of Oct. 19. During that period of time, while work is occurring, travel will be limited to one-way traffic and limited access as necessary. As we get closer to that time, a traffic control plan will be released to the surrounding businesses so they can plan accordingly.

We appreciate the public as well as business owners of Glasgow and want to thank everyone, in advance, for their patience and understanding while we improve the infrastructure in our community!

Sincerely,

Becky Erickson, Mayor
