Pool Campaign Closing In On $1,000,000 Raised

Budding entrepreneur Oakleigh Trott chose one of the hottest weeks of the summer to set up shop in front of her house. Selling $0.50 lemonade one cup at a time, she amassed quite the business "Ya, I've had to buy more supplies a whole bunch of times" says Oakleigh, age 7. Oakleigh decided that instead of spending her money on toys or something special for herself, she would donate all her earnings to the Valley County Community Pool Fundraiser.

"When I thought about what to do with the money, I just thought of the pool! I go there every single day in the summer and I love swimming, going off the diving board, and being there with my friends." Oakleigh definitely committed to her endeavor, and spent the whole third week of August on Skylark Road selling refreshments. Armed with the help of friends and family, and a quick run through the sprinkler every once in a while to cool off, Oakleigh collected $220 to donate to the pool fund, helping the pool campaign reach the latest fundraising total of $949,673.

While you haven't heard much from the Fundraising Campaign over the last few months, they have been slowly but surely bringing in donations, applying for grants, and planning the next fundraiser.

Earlier this spring, the event "Wine Flight and Charcuterie Night" had been postponed due to COVID and is now rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13! It will be the same event adapted to ever evolving COVID restrictions. A $100 ticket will get you one entry into a drawing for two different grand prizes, as well as two charcuterie tasting plates and three mini bottles of wine, accompanied by a wine and cheese tasting guide! The two grand prizes are a 3500-Watt New Holland inverter generator from Zerbe Brothers, and a .24 carat total weight diamond and white gold ring from Baker's Jewelry. Additionally, you will be able to pick up your charcuterie tasting plates and mini wine from the comfort of your vehicle during the drive-thru event at the Fairgrounds between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The grand prizes will be drawn at the conclusion of the event via Facebook Live. Don't worry! If you do not use Facebook or miss the live drawing, the winners will be contacted via a phone call.

You will also be able to spot a wide array of silent auction items while driving through the event, and can bid on them via the campaign website http://www.valcopool.com. Silent auction items will be available for bidding between Oct. 6 and the 14. Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased at Baker's Jewelry, Glasgow Rec Department, KLTZ/KLAN, the Loaded Toad, or on valcopool.com. If you purchased a ticket earlier this spring, your ticket is still valid for the new rescheduled event.

But wait, there's more! The Valley County Community Pool Campaign is also in the middle of a bushel drive fundraiser. You can donate crop bushels to the pool fund at EGT, Glasgow CHS Elevator, and the Opheim Pro COOP. Simply ask staff at the elevator to put XXX number of bushels in the name of "City of Glasgow" for the new pool. The City will then contact them to sell that grain. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will help teach swim safety for current and future generations.
