Reds Bring The Fireworks On The Road

Secure Two Wins In An Independence Day Double Header

There is nothing more patriotic than baseball on Independence Day. The Glasgow Reds provided the America tradition to baseball fans in a double-header against the Wolf Point Yellowjackets and the Froid Homestead Bulls in Wolf Point on July 4. The Reds also lit fireworks of their own against their opponents, bringing home a win against the Yellowjackets, 10-6, and a win against the Bulls, 14-7.

Game action started off against the Yellowjackets early in the first inning when Tel Aune scored as a result of a wild pitch and Chase Guttenberg scored a run in the next play after Kristian Price grounded out. The Yellowjackets managed to get one run in at the bottom of the first as a result of a double-header by Yellowjacket Terry Almer. The second inning saw a lull in play for both teams until the Reds kicked it off again in the third, scoring two runs courtesy of Jordan Plummer and Price. The Yellowjackets tied the game at four-four in the bottom of the third.

After another lull in action in the fourth inning of both teams, the Reds secured the game in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs. JT Sprague drew a walk which allowed Rance Rhoads to score. The next play saw Calvin Bengochea double on a fly ball, which brought in Tatum Hansen and Sprague. Keigan Ingram followed with a single on a line drive, advancing Bengochea, who would then score after Aiden Hoerster singled on a pop fly. Next up to bat was Plummer, who grounded to Yellowjacket second baseman Trevin Boyson and then made his way around the bases due to a single by Guttenberg and then advanced to third and then home due to a Yellowjacket error. The Yellowjackets only managed to put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, however it was too late in the game for them to take home the win.

Mason Donaldson started the game for the Reds, allowing four hits, four runs over two and a third innings, while striking out four. Ingram led the Reds on the mound, surrendering two runs on one hit over three and two-thirds inning, while striking out four. Rhoads, Bengochea, Sprague, Price, Guttenberg, Hansen, Hoerster and Ingram each collected one hit to lead the Reds in the game.

The Reds kept up their winning momentum in the next game against the Froid Homestead Bulls. The Reds started game action early in the bottom of the first inning, scoring nine runs to the Homestead Bulls' none.

Scoring action started in the fourth play of the inning when Price drew a walk, scoring Tel Aune and allowing Ingram and Rhoads to advance into scoring position. The next play saw Hansen hit a hard ground ball, providing Ingram the opportunity to score and further advancing Rhoads and Price. Sprague followed up with a line drive, allowing Rhoads and Price to score and Hansen to advance to third. Three walks were drawn by the Reds, advancing Hansen, Sprague and Donaldson. Near the end of the inning, Rhoads doubled on a fly ball, allowing Hoerster and Plummer to score, ending the inning with nine total runs.

The Reds continued the scoring streak in the following innings, drawing a single run in the second, third, and fourth innings. The Homestead Bulls attempted to battle back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring six runs, however could not close the early lead gap the Reds created. The Reds scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game 14-7.

Chase Guttenberg earned the win for the Reds, allowing nine hits and seven runs over six innings, while striking out six. The Reds also racked up 13 hits in the day, led by Sprague, Aune and Rhoads all having multiple hits.

The Reds battled against the Havre Northstars on July 7 at Havre and then will travel home to take on the Yellowjackets at home field on Saturday, July 11, with double headers at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Reds will then travel to Froid on Sunday, July 12, to again face off against the Homestead Bulls at Froid for a double header with game action starting at 2 p.m.
