Reds Host Double Headers Before Traveling

In less than desirable weather conditions, which consisted of cold and wind, the Glasgow Reds played a double header on June 16 agains the Homestead Bulls. The Reds saw the game slip away early during the first evening game as the Bulls scored three runs in the first inning. The Reds continued to have a tough time defending the Bulls, as they ended the game with 10 runs, scoring six in the fourth inning and one in the sixth inning. The Reds got on the board the first and only time of the game during the fifth inning, scoring their total four runs, courtesy of runs being batted in from Tatum Hansen and Tel Aune's hits at the plate. Mason Donaldson started the game, and took the loss for the Reds, allowing seven hits, nine runs and striking out six over four innings. Hansen followed the next three innings with two hits, two runs and striking out two.

The next game against the Homestead Bulls fared a little better for the Reds, however they still couldn't clinch the win. The Bulls scored their first run of the game in the first inning and followed up with a run each in the second and third inning. The Reds' Hansen scored on an error by Bulls' third baseman in the second inning and followed up with two more runs in the third inning, tying the game at three each.The fourth inning saw the Bulls score two more runs, followed by two runs each in the sixth and seventh inning, sealing the win. The Reds did answer for the Bulls two runs in the sixth inning, when Aiden Hoersted doubled on a two-two count, scoring one and JT Sprague singled, also on a two-two count, scoring one run. Keigan Ingram took the loss for the Reds, allowing five hits, five runs, and striking out four over five innings. Jordan Plummer and Aune each pitched one inning to end the game with the loss, 9 to 5.

The Reds hosted another home double-header on June 20 against the Glendive Blue Devils B in much more favorable weather conditions than earlier in the week. A light breeze and plentiful sunshine helped the Reds walk away with one loss and added one win to their record. The first game against the Blue Devils didn't get started for either team until the fifth inning, where the Blue Devils scored four runs in the top of the fifth, which the Reds followed with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of Sprague, Donaldson and Walker Laumeyer. The Blue Devils took the game however in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs, of which the Reds could not come back from offensively, losing 11 to three. Hansen took the loss for the Reds, allowing five hits and four runs, striking out three over five innings. Rance Rhoads, Laumeyer, Aiden Hoerster, Plummer, Sprague and Donaldson each collected one hit throughout the game to lead the Reds in hits.

The second game saw the Reds come back with a vengeance, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first, followed by multiple runs in the proceeding innings. The game only lasted five innings due to the success the Reds had at bat, taking home the win 19 to 2. Rhoads got the game started early drawing a walk and scoring one run. In the third inning, Ingram, Laumeyer, Kolstad, Aune, Sprague and Rhoads all contributed with runs batted in, adding to the blowout of the Blue Devils. Pitcher Plummer took the win for the Reds, only surrendering two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked one during his time on the mound.

The Reds took the momentum of the win on the road to Lewistown on June 21 for a match-up against the Gillette Rustlers and the Havre Northstars.

Back and forth action dominated the game early on between the Reds and the Rustlers, with the Reds starting off the scoring with Rhoads drawing a walk in the first. The Reds continued to score three runs in the top of the second and one run in the top of the third, which the Rustlers followed, scoring two runs each in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the third. The Rustlers tied the game at six in the bottom of the fifth inning, however when it was the Reds' turn at bat, they broke the tie and continued to rack up the runs. Price tripled on a 0-1 count in the top of the sixth, scoring one run, while Sprague, Hansen, Bengochea, Donaldson, and Aune also all contributed offensively in the inning. The Reds sealed their win with an additional four runs in the seventh, courtesy of Price, Ingram and Bengochea. Guttenberg took the 17-12 win for the Reds, lasting six innings, allowing six hits and six runs, while striking out five. Aune and Hoerster entered the game to relieve Guttenberg. Aune recorded the last two outs to earn the save.

The Reds couldn't keep the momentum going, even though they fought hard in the beginning. The Reds kept the game close in the first inning scoring six runs, due to Hansen's home run, to the Northstars' five. The second inning saw more back and forth action, with the Reds scoring two runs to Northstars' one. The Northstars however continued the scoring as the innings progressed as the Reds fell behind. Entering the fifth inning, the game was tied at eight, when the Northstars broke the tie and ran away with the game. Rhoads started the game for the Reds, lasting two innings and allowed five hits and six runs while striking out one. In total the Reds racked up 14 hits in the game with Price, Guttenberg and Rhoads all having multiple hits, while Price led the team with four hits in five at bats.

The Reds hope to add wins to their two and eight record when they travel to Wolf Point June 27 to play the Yellow Jackets and then will travel to Glendive on June 28 to take on the Blue Devils B on their home field.
