Ice Dawg Squirts Compete In State Tournament

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs’ Squirts concluded their season at the MAHA State Tournament in Havre this past weekend, Feb. 28 through March 1. While the tournament went much the way the season did for the young team, coach Landon Holte told the Courier, “Kids played very hard and never gave up this whole season.”

That hard work did lead to a couple of close games for the Dawgs but unfortunately the team was not able to secure any wins over the weekend.

Glasgow faced off against Havre on Friday night and the Dawgs dropped the game by a single goal, 5-4. Glasgow put up all four of their goals in the second period with Ian Anderson scoring first, followed by Orion Henry, who was assisted by Reilly Llewellyn and Abigail Henry. Brock Ciarfardone followed up with assists on goals from Anderson and Jack Miller to close out the Dawgs’ scoring.

On Saturday morning, the Dawgs faced off against the Great Falls Americans, dropping the game by a score of 12-2. Phoenix Phipps netted Glasgow’s first goal with assists from Anderson and Ciarfardone while Llewellyn scored the second goal with help from Anderson.

Later that day, the Dawgs saw a similar outcome against Bozeman, falling 9-2. Ciarfardone scored a power play goal, assisted by Anderson, and Miller later put the puck in the net with help from Llewellyn.

Glasgow played their final game Sunday morning against a tough Bozeman team. The Dawgs put up a fight but lost 12-5. Anderson and Miller put the puck in the net in the first period, while Llewellyn put in Glasgow’s first goal in the second period with an assist from Anderson. Miller netted the second goal of the period for the Dawgs with an assist from Anderson, who also got the assist on Llewellyn’s final goal of the game.

Throughout the weekend, Mary Knierim played between the pipes for Glasgow.

Though the tournament ended without a win, the team is already looking ahead to next season. Coach Holte said, “Big learning year for young players that will come back next year looking for redemption!”
