Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Albertsons Buys Former Shopko Property

Advertises for Pharmacy Clerk

A special warranty deed filed with the Valley County Clerk and Recorder’s Office states that the property formerly owned by Shopko has been transferred to Albertsons LLC. The transfer presumably sets up the possibility that the local Albertsons grocery store may be relocating to the vacant box store, although no one from Albertsons has returned phone calls for information.

In addition to the deed, signed on Jan. 3 and recorded by the Clerk and Recorder on Jan. 8, the County Treasurer’s Office also confirmed that the second half of the property’s 2019 taxes, which amounted to $20,712.57, were paid in full on that same day by a mortgage distribution account. The land is current on all county taxes, according to the treasurer.

Adding to the speculation surrounding an Albertson's move down the street is the fact that the company is currently advertising online for six available positions in Glasgow. One of those positions is for a pharmacy clerk in Glasgow that, when linked to the company website, lists the current address of Albertsons in Glasgow and states that the position will be “hiring soon.” The job posting suggests that the store may not only be relocating to the larger location but may also be utilizing thepharmacy on the premises.

Speculation around the property was stirred following the announced bankruptcy and dissolution of Shopko over a year ago with rumors swirling since that a number of stores, including big box sporting goods stores, dollar stores and general supply stores, had been planning to move in. Still, the possible relocation of Albertsons has been met with excitement by many who view the store’s current location as too cramped for the store’s patronage and stock.
