Glasgow High School Announces Poetry Out Loud Contest

Glasgow High School announces a school contest for Poetry Out Loud™. On Monday, Jan. 6, more than 25 students from Glasgow High School will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest at The Valley County Pioneer Museum. The winner of this competition will have the opportunity to advance to the regional Poetry Out Loud contest. The Montana champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud national finals on April 28-29, in Washington, D.C., where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed.

Poetry Out Loud, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry— both classic and contemporary—through memorization, performance, and competition. Since the program began in 2005, more than 3.8 million students and 60,000 teachers from 16,000 schools across the country have participated in Poetry Out Loud.

Attendance at the local competition, held at Valley County Pioneer Museum, this Monday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. is free and open to the public, although seating is limited.
