North Country Hosts Scotties

Boys Come Out Victorious, Girls Lose By 11

The North County Mavericks hosted the Glasgow Scotties on Dec. 12 in Saco. The boys came out victorious against the visiting team, 52-44 while the girls lost by a mere 11 points, 52-41.

"The Glasgow girls put in a lot of time playing together this summer and played very well Thursday night. They shot the ball extremely well and their posts gave us troubles. They came in with a good defensive plan that took away a lot of our scoring options," stated Lady Mavs coach Amber Erickson.

Top scorers included Kia Wasson with 11 points and five rebounds and Kaitlyn McColly with 11 pounds and four rebounds. Other contributors included Jaycee Erickson and Jaydyn Erickson with eight points each.

On the boys side, the Mavs and the Scotties saw lots of back and forth in the first half of the game, with the Mavs scoring 18 points by the end of the first half compared to the 16 points by the Scotties. The third quarter saw the Mavs shoot a number of two-pointers while the Scotties only found the net via two three-pointers and a free-throw, allowing the Mavs to continue to add to their led. The Scotties also allowed the Mavs to add additional points to the board as a result of fouls made by the Scotties. As a result, the Mavs were given 15 free throw attempts, sinking 13 of them. Those free-throws attempts helped propel the Mavs over the Scotties, 52-44.

Top scorers for the Mavs included Loden Idler with 16 points and Trey Johnson with 13 points. Other contributors included Beau Simonson with 10 points, Jesse Lee with nine points, JonRey Taylor with a three-pointer in the third quarter, and Dustin Ostrom with a free throw in the first quarter.
