Wheatgrass Arts & Gallery Artist of the Month Featuring Glasgow Native
December 4, 2019
Glasgow native Jake Dix is definitely a unique artist. His eclectic style of painting is inspired by the 1980s artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and other modern expressionist artists.
His artwork will be on display at the Wheatgrass Arts & Gallery throughout the month of December and the community will have the chance to talk to him during the Artist of the Month reception on Friday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gallery, 523 2nd Ave. S.
Just as Basquiat reflects, “I don’t think about art when I’m working. I try to think about life,” Dix’s artwork reflects as much. His favorite kinds of art are abstract, expressionism, cubism and gonzo, which means bizarre or crazy. Consequently, he has a very free and unique style.
Electric guitar is his first passion and his music and art always feed off each other. Dix has been drawing his entire life and most recently took up painting to promote mental health. He inspires both inactive and non-artists to do the same. He is always open to talk about art, music and life.
