Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

A Day of Education Lunch and Learn Session

It happens to most of us. We wake up one day and suddenly we’re what Dr. Seuss calls “obsolete children.” The world around us has changed and we’re confronted with difficult decisions in our senior years about our healthcare, housing and more. “We want to provide a road map for seniors,” said coordinator for Council on Aging (COA) Vicky Wetz.

Wetz has developed “A Day of Education,” a lunch and learn session, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Valley County Senior Center, 328 4th Street South in Glasgow. “We have a raft of experts to provide insights on various topics and to answer specific questions about local concerns that any senior might have,” Wetz said.

Subject matter experts include Valley View Home Administrator Wes Thompson, who will share the implications of Montana and of Valley County’s aging demographics. Social Services Coordinator at Valley View Home Emily Young will be on hand for a Q-and-A session to answer general and specific questions about Valley View Home services and care.

Center Office Manager at Eastern Montana Mental Health Mary Hughes will cover services provided by the center and the work of the new Valley Care Coalition. Glasgow Mayor Becky Erickson will address housing issues, including the results of a housing survey. Bell Mortuary Funeral Director Bronwin Hanshew will offer advice on pre-arrangement and pinpoint significant financial planning issues.

Wetz will provide an overview of services she manages through the Council for Aging and at the Senior Center. Other topics include the 2020 U.S. Census, scams and frauds, home care services and legal services.

The session and lunch are free and open to the public.
