Scotties Keep Home Streak Alive

Followed Up With Reaching Gold Bracket in Dickinson

The Lady Scotties hosted the Wolf Point Wolves on Sept. 26, and keeping with how the season has been going so far for the Scotties at home court, they beat their guests in three matches, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14. In what has become a tradition every home game this season, the home fan base showed up in droves to show their support and provide vocal encouragement to the team who has been bringing it their all on the court.

During the three matches, Glasgow achieved 32 kills, led by Riley Noser's eight, 45 digs, led by Laura Ross' 11, and 25 assists, led by Rachelle Glaser's 21. "Our win against Wolf Point was nice and the girls had to play through being down in points a couple times to come back and win, which is important," said coach Somer Hoerster.

After keeping their undefeated home record, the Lady Scotties traveled to Dickinson, N.D., to participate in the two-day Dickinson Invitational, Sept. 27 and 28. After getting into town on Sept. 27, they played three games in pool play. Their first game against Dickinson saw them defeated, 25-23, 15-25, 15-12. "We almost beat Dickinson, but lost in three. If it would have come down to points, we would have had them," explained coach Hoerster.

The Lady Scotties didn't let the first defeat get in their way. Their next two opponents of the day, Killdeer and Baker, didn't stand a chance as the Scotties came back with a vengeance. They beat Killdeer, 25-6, 25-13, 15-7 and Baker, 25-13, 25-13, 11-15, finishing pool play with a two and one record for the day. This record helped launch them into the Gold Bracket for the following day.

The second day of play saw a rough start for the Scotties. With a combination of sickness and injuries, the team had a lot to deal with and handle. The Gold Bracket saw the Lady Scotties first play against Linton, N.D., who defeated Glasgow 25-14, 25-16. The Scotties then played against Billings Senior and got defeated, 25-15, 15-25, 15-4. "We managed to beat Billings Senior pretty easily in one game so with all the things we dealt with that day I'm fine with how that went," explained coach Hoerster. The third game of the day saw Dickinson Trinity defeat Glasgow, 25-16, 25-22.

"Obviously we would have preferred a win or two but we all know that we could have played much better than what we showed. We now have some of the finer details that we need to work on. As a whole though, I'm very happy with this group of girls and how well they work together," explained coach Hoerster.

According to Coach Hoerster, Glasgow High School has not reached the Gold Bracket before in the several years the team has participated in the invitational. "Just to get to play in that gym with such high levels of play was awesome for the girls and we will take that as a win," said coach Hoerster.

After the two-day tournament, the Scotties finished with two wins and four losses. Even though Saturday was a tough day for the Lady Scotties they are not allowing the experience dampen their season or attitude."We didn't pass well and part of that is because I'm sure the higher caliber teams just create mistakes and issues. To get to play AA schools and be in the same gym as several defending state champs is pretty awesome," stated Coach Hoerster.

The Lady Scotties will travel to Sidney on Thursday, Oct. 3, and then will travel to Fairview on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Both games will start at 4 p.m. with C squad, followed by JV and then Varsity action.
