Shawnee, Okla. Artist Making a Stop in Glasgow During Art Across America Tour

October 2, 2019

Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery will be hosting an Artist Reception at the gallery, 523 2nd Ave. S., Glasgow, on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for Douglas G. Gordon. Gordon is stopping in Glasgow on his Art Across America venture to promote art and artists throughout America.

After the reception, he will be hosting a one evening printmaking class utilizing monotypes and non-toxic etching. The cost is $45 and open to everyone over 14 years old and all skill levels. To register, contact the Wheatgrass Arts & Gallery at 230-0148 or e-mail wheatgrassarts@gmail.com. Slots are limited to 10 students in order to enable those attending to gain the maximum amount of knowledge and experience.

“I am really looking forward to meeting local Glasgow artists and artists from the surrounding area,” says artist Gordon “I am also excited to be able to teach a class on monotypes and non-toxic printing at the Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery,” he adds.

At the beginning of October, Gordon boarded his first train in Norman, Okla., and set forward to head south and then north to Chicago on a train before catching a bus northeast to St. Paul, Minn. He will spend six days there meeting artists, creating art and spending some quality time with family. From St. Paul, Gordon will head west on the Empire Builder to Glasgow and then west to the greater Seattle area before heading south to Portland and Los Angeles. After LA, Gordon will head east to Albuquerque and then north-east to Dodge City to meet with artists from the 2nd Ave Art Guild before heading home at the end of a long and exciting ‘Art-venture.’

When planning his trip, Gordon saw that the Empire Builder train stops in Glasgow. “Having grown up in Glasgow, Scotland, I knew that I had to find an art reason for stopping off in Glasgow during my ‘art-venture.’ I used a search engine to find artists and galleries in Glasgow and I found listings for many artists and The Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery and I reached out to them to see if I could teach a class, in monotype and non-toxic etching.”

He plans to use search engines to connect with other artists in other towns and cities along the way. “You might as well go big or go home,” he says.

Gordon will be posting many photos and streaming videos to his Facebook ‘Art Across America’ page ( http://www.facebook.com/ArtAdventure2019/) during his trip as well as on his website at douglasggordon.com.
