Glasgow Boys and Girls XC Claim Second in Poplar

The Glasgow Scottie Cross Country teams traveled to Poplar on Sept. 21 to compete at the Poplar Invitational Meet. The Scotties claimed both of the second place team slots with top performances out of Iris McKean, claiming third for the girls, and Wilson Overby, claiming fifth for the boys.

In the end, the Glasgow girls came out with a total score of 63 coming in behind Williston’s 24 and ahead of Scobey’s 138. The boys chiseled down their score to 87 behind Williston’s 25 and ahead of Richey/Lambert’s 106. Scottie girls had three top 10 place holders, but the Scottie boys held only one.

Discussing the meet with the Courier, Elizabeth Nyquist said she was more than pleased with her performance and the performance of the team at the meet. “It was actually really, really good,” said Nyquist. “I think it was our best meet yet.”

She shared that sentiment with Bergen Miller who said, “The team did pretty awesome; just about everybody P.R.’d [personal record].” He would add later that a number of his teammates had claimed letter, who had been striving for the goal for some time. He credited Homecoming week as a significant factor in the day’s success. “I mean it was a real fun meet with all the homecoming goings on, I think that had a lot to do with how everybody ran.”

From here cross country goes to Frazer on Thursday, Sept. 26, followed up by the Scottie home meet on Saturday, Sept. 28. For Nyquist though the excitement is about the fun and the personal bests. “I’m just looking forward to seeing where everyone ends up at the end of the year.”
