Old Roads and Our Roots

Do you drive the highways between Glasgow, Nashua, Malta or Opheim and remember them as they used to be?

If you are looking at your surroundings you can often pick out remains of the old road beds. I remember driving on gravel for half of the trip to Glasgow from Opheim. And in my memories it seems that a lot of Highway 2 (going either east or west) was extremely narrow.

I do remember that we didn’t drive 70-80 mph at that time but our cars were also bigger. Going to wider highway and shoulders you could pull over on was a real asset. Now we would really like to have #2 be a four-lane. WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY BABY!!

I have been somewhat on the sick list and have tried to stay out of the heat as much as possible, which has led me to do some reading of some of my ancestor treasurers. It is hard to imagine the trails that were followed by our ancestors when they made the journey from their “city” roots, to the Middle of Nowhere to take advantage of free land.

We all have a history of STRONG ancestors. We need to all remember our roots, and hope that our great-grandchildren will look back at some point in their lives and marvel at how strong this generation could be.
