Golfers Trim Green and Scores for Mow 'Em Short Tourney

A lot of planning goes into the annual Mow 'Em Short Tournament held on July 27 at Sunnyside Country Club and that planning paid off. "The tourney went so smoothly," stated Sunnyside Manager Andy Newton as he praised Scott Markle's organization. "A well-oiled machine. Everyone was happy and everyone had a blast."

Twenty-five two-person teams braved the sun and temperatures in the 90s for a chance to win hole prizes and bragging rights. Even though the weather cooperated, golfers enjoyed the reprieve offered between rounds in the cool clubhouse.

Three rounds of play and hole prizes on every hole each round offered plenty of chances for bragging and claiming the winnings. The first round of Best Ball play ended in a tie between the team of Juice Fischer and Dan Bilbruck and the team of Marj Markle and Arleen Archambeault. Marc Breigenzer and Keithe Thorson claimed the Alternate Shot second round. Team Boomtown, Andy Newton and Kevin Schindler, tied Derek Beadle and Robert Martin in the Scramble third round.

Sue Peterson and Katy Peterson snagged bragging rights for first place in Gross, while Rod Archambeault and Blaine Myrick took Net in the tournament.

Organizers would like to extend a special thank-you to Helen Squires and Gary Maczka for lending their legendary culinary skills to the tournament, as well as all the local sponsors who donated prizes.

The annual Mow 'Em Short Tournament will return next summer for it's 11th year.
